As far as I Know, one can't access it directly with script, got to pretend it's not installed. You are allowed to create custome table on the SQL server database that comes with WinCC as long as the table is used in conjuction with the WinCC project. JMJ Posts: 487 Rating: (44)	DimiCamp, Yes, this is about using SQL server database for other external application or to create your own database for soime other purpose. For example you are using it for Employee salary database which has nothing to do with WinCC application. Moreoever, in this case we are not even creating a new database just adding a new table to the existing runtime database. This is completely legal. If you use project migrator on a project with manually created tables, you may loose that table after migration and will have to create it again.

DimiCamp Posts: 168 Rating: (49)	I'm no layer (fortunetly), but if you follow "Start -> SIMATIC -> WinCC -> WinCC Information System -> Instalation Notes -> Licenses and Licensing" you'll find this: Microsoft SQL Server 2000 A license is necessary to use the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 database. This license is readily available in a licensed and proper installation of WinCC. The licensed SQL server installed with WinCC may only be used in connection with WinCC. Its use for external applications or an internal database* requires an additional license.* for internal database I understand every data one may want to store (even if you only create a table for that). I really don't know, it's a personal view. I just wish that Siemens Officially told everybody that the use of SQL Server (in the case you're claiming) is completely legal.

If the computer performing the access has an installation of a WinCC Family product (WinCC Basic, Web Navigator, Dat@Monitor, etc.), no WinCC/CAL is required for this computer. WinCC/CAL required for remote access is already included in the WinCC Basic system as well as in the option packages, such as Web Navigator. A WinCC/CAL is required for each computer that does not have a WinCC product installed and which remotely accesses WinCC archive data on one or several WinCC servers, or processes same. The same applies for access using OPC HDA, OPC A&E or MS OLE-DB Provider from outside systems.

I completely agree with the FAQ. The case discussedDOES NOT have 'own database' or 'third party applications'. Also please check the link below from A&D Mall. If you do not consider official training material from Siemens as "Official" about CAL license. https://mall.automation.siemens.com/DE/guest/index.asp?aktPrim=0&nodeID=10016159&mlfb=6AV6371%2D1ES06%2D0AX0&aktTab=4&lang=en I have also havesample programs from Siemens WinCC support with custom table in RT Database. Furthermore, if you're right, I think Siemens should change the name of WinCC Optional Pack "User Archive" to "Useless Archive" hum heh hum hum heh ---- There are some options/add-ons inWinCC that you achieve with scripting without using the package. That does not mean it is possible for everybody to use advanced scripting. Sometimes option packs are useful to make the work possibile if you do not have the experience with advance programing. Sometime it may make it cost effective if itmakes thedevelopment faster.
