AB ControlLogix interface with CM104 module

BoomTH Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	Dear all, I am currently working on a power plant project and this is my first time with Siemens DCS, the SPPA-T3000. The CM104 is used as our project's3rd party PLC interface. I was previously informed by my Siemens representative that itis impossible to directly connect AB PLC to Siemens Ethernet network using Ethernet/IP. But, it is possible by using ModbusTCP to connect AB PLC to CM104. Therefore, I standardized all the communication protocol to all PLCs as ModbusTCP. Currently, I am seeing from drawing that the AB ControlLogixPLCs are equipped with 1756-ENBT as an interface module. If I am correct, this 1756-ENBT utilizes Ethernet/IP as the communication protocol. With this 1756-ENBT directly interfacing with CM104, I am understanding that the communication cannot be achieved. Could someone give me some advice on this? Do I need additional hardware to connect the AB ControlLogix to my SPPA-T3000? Thanks for all your help,

dchartier Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 3/17/2025 Posts: 12344 Rating: (2707)	Hello BoomTH; If your CM104 is configured for Modbus/TCP (as server, or client?), then you are right, the Controllogix ENBT module cannot exchange data with it. Rockwell does not provide Modbus/TCP connectivity directly through their own offerings; they use Encompas Partners (third-party manufacturers associated with Rockwell) to develop "plug-and-play" add-on modules. For communictaions, one of the partners is Prosoft-Technology, and here is one of their Modbus/TCP processors for the Controllogix: http://www.prosoft-technology.com/content/view/full/8968 This module can be used as servwer or client; others are linited to only server or client, others are dedicated to remote rack applications.... The variety is interesting. Integrating them into a CLogix system is quite easy, and configuration is quick, especially with the ladder routineprovided. For example, look at: -Prolinx gateways (from Prosoft): Long link -Fieldserver gateways protocol list: http://www.fieldserver.com/products/drivers/drivers.php -Applicom gateways (from Molex/Brad Harrisson): http://www.woodhead.com/products/brad/bradcommunications/gateways/ There are probably many more avilable on the web. Rish11 Posts: 10 Rating: (0)	Yes T3000 CM104 only communicates through Modbus TCP and at another end its Ethernet TCP so u definetly need a Protocol converter. You can chosse as per suggested from prosoft or any another converter as well for your application. After that communication can be established between T3000 and AB controlLogix.
