Elonen Bronze Member Joined: 4/11/2012 Last visit: 10/29/2024 Posts: 181 Rating: (34)	fritz Hello zeemens The "bigger" 180 deg Metal Plug on one end of the cable has some"smarts" in it (mini repeater) which isolates the 3 meter Spurline from the bus to avoid avoid the creation of Spurline If you use a "homade" Profibus cable and Plugs to connect your PG (orlaptop with for example CP5512)to a running Profibus Network it would create a Spurline which has a good chance to take your bus out of action if operatedat higher baudrates. A question: So this cable (6ES7901-4BD0-0XA0) can be used to "piggyback" an existing profibus line, that is already terminated from both ends. Will this cable work just as well for connecting only 2 profibus stations? A direct link from PG to PLC, with no other cables leaving from those ports? This connection would require termination from both ends of the cable, is this correct? If I only have need for direct connection between 2 stations, then I could use the cable in attachment OR the 6ES7901-4BD0-0XA0. If I want to piggyback an existing profibus line, then I can't use the cable in attachments, but I can still use the cable 6ES7901-4BD0-0XA0. Is this correct? So will cable 6ES7901-4BD0-0XA0 work for both spur-lines, and for standalone? Attachment Profibus PG cable Self made.pdf (69 Downloads)

Can it even be used for forming a functional profibus (or MPI) connection between PG and PLC? With closer look, the cable product page says " PG TO PROFUBUS DP". So this would indicate that it's only meant to connect PG to an existing and complete profibus-DP line. Only problem is: I have used this cable for forming a direct link between PG and PLC, between CP 5511 and Siemens PLC. Was I just lucky? The profibus connection worked with no terminators? (There were some problems with the connection, but it worked, more or less.)

Rated X Posts: 1547 Rating: (129)	Hello, the answer is similar like your experience. It should work, because the cable length is lower than 5 Meter. If you use a lower Baud rate than 12Mbit it should work more stable, but in case of a 12 MBit network I would suggest using this cable:6XV1830-2AH30 It is simple a short Profibus network cable.
