ABSOLUTE Vs SYMBOLIC ACESS role in PLC HMI communication

vipz Gold Member Joined: 9/2/2012 Last visit: 1/24/2025 Posts: 711 Rating: (30)	Hello , one of our customer reported following problem. 1. plc = 1214 2. hmi = kp700 3. software = tia v12 sp1 problem reported-- Bboth the plc and hmi are in same project. While creating hmi project, accessed the tag from PLC tag list. Memory tags, output (Q) tags are used like this for HMI I/O field display. So it was showing as "sybolic access" in HMI tag list after linking with hmi IO fields. When tested the communication between PLC and HMI, these tags are not communicating, but connection is established (message is coming as connection established). tested-- when i changed tag Tag type from symbolic to absolute in HMI tag list, it started communication. the tag as symbolic is not communicating, absolute is communicating. why it is like that ? how can i overvome this issue ?

I had a similar problem recently and submitted to Siemens via Support Request The answer I received was something like this, "Yeah, that happens sometimes. Changing it to Absolute is the know work-around". I urged them to forward the complaint to Siemens HQ to either note it in the documentation, or fix the problem.

Hai,

Here i am getting an alarm as-- 190004(The tag is not updated because the address configured for this tag does not exist.) when opening the screen where symbolic tags are configured

Check the configuration is the remody given in help file coresponding to this error.

I have the same problems in V12 and V13 and with different panel models ( from KP300 to KP1500 ) The same when simulating on the PC. No useable answer from support so far. regards Koenb

It is very annoying and sometimes I can fix it by deleting the hmi tags where the bug occurs, then compile > rebuild all, then recreate them and compile > rebuild all again. It is a pain in the ass I know.
	Keep it simple and on-topic. A simple straight-to-the-point answer is often of more quality than a complicated one.

abwg123 Posts: 1 Rating: (0)	In TIA Portal V14 is the same problem. If I change access for absolute I have connection- I mean I can for example change tag in PLC from HMI's button. But problem is if someone using optimized blocks then you can't use absolute access: Siemens Support
