Hello Reid; To connect PDM to a Profibus-DP network (that is how you will access the PA slaves) you will need a Profibus CP in your PC. As stated, you need 24V power for this operation, and the PC Adapter does not provide it by itself. We install PDM on laptops, and use a CP 5512 PCMCIA/Cardbus interface to configure our PA slaves:
If your laptop does not have a Cardbus interface, there is a new CP 5711 USB-Profibus interface, but you will need an external 24V power supply to provide enough power for its operations.
Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |

Hello Mr. Daniel, I was investigating the ability of PC adapter to work with portable PDM station. I don't know about the 24VDC but I have found this FAQ which states that the main reason behind incompatibility of PC adapter with PDM is that PC adapter doesn't support acyclic communication on the Profibus. Best regards. H-H |
