MFA Posts: 48 Rating: (4)	Dear all, I'd like to activate an alarm in WinCC Flex on a falling edge (as in WinCC). The PLC (to which I don't have acces) send me an bit 1=ok and 0=Alarm Is it possible and how? Thanks for your help

If so then you need to set bit in PLC for alarm on falling edge as WinCC Flex sets alarm when bit is "1".

Create a script to take the alarm word from PLC and invert that specific bit you want to use, then put the result into another word (internal tag) Use this internal tag in your discrete alarm. this script has to run on change value of the tag.

Yes, it might be a workaround, but again... scripts. If you have lots of alarms then you will get big drop in a performance. I want again to say my filosofy here: it's a HMI, so it should be kep as simple as possible (I mean scripts, faceplates and so on). I had lots and lots of times when customer wants to do something bad for me when changing between two screen takes 2-3 seconds. That's really crazy.

I totally agree with you, Darius in keeping the HMI as simple as possible. 2 days ago I had to 'manually' migrate an HMI from Proface to Siemens and it had many scaling for tags that made me confused. That was ONLY scaling, so how about scripts??? I went for scripts in this case because he said that he has no access to PLC software and I don't think there is a direct way to do it in WinCC Flexible. Anyway the script should look like this: SetValue SmartTags("Tag_2"), SmartTags("Tag_1") InvertBitInTag SmartTags("Tag_2"), 0 That script has to run on change value for Tag_1. Where Tag_1 is the main alarm word and Tag_2 is the internal tag. This can invert the bit number 0 in that tag, so it's a simple script and will not delay the screen loading at all

Even for my plain and simple HMIs By the way, why you use scripts for scaling ? Flexible has nice inbuild scaling capabilities. Wasn't it enough ?

Even for my plain and simple HMIs By the way, why you use scripts for scaling ? Flexible has nice inbuild scaling capabilities. Wasn't it enough ? NO NO, I didn't use scripts for scaling at all. I used the scaling built in the tags in WinCC Flexible normally. I just wanted to give an example why HMIs should be simple that only copying scaling values can be confusing so what about copying scripts...!!! Also if something went wrong with HMI, and you don't have the configuration file, and you decided to build it from scratch, the machine may not work well. That's because the lost scripts could've been manipulating tags from HMI, so this is wrong practice in building HMIs. (also happened to me once)

OOOPPPSSSSS!!!! Then another workaround is required You have the option of creating an object textfield/label/picture... etc and make it visible only when your bit is zero. You write inside this object your alarm message and maybe you can make it flashing and you have to put it in every screen. I hope that you have only one bit to display, because many of these and your screen will experience some delay in loading.
