Add DB to watch table

But there are 2 other ways of achieving what you are after:- 1) Open the DB and use the montior mode. This is enabled by clicking on the glasses icon. You can then change the values in the DB by changing the values in the Actual value column and then downloading the DB to the controller using the save / download icon. 2) You can open the DB online. You dod thios by opening the DB as normal. Then from within the editor, you select the File->Open ONLINE You can now monitor the values by selecting View->Update or pressing F5. You can also change the values and then download / save them to the controller.

But I assume that it must have the same faunctionality, but the interface may be slightly different. Any TIA portal experts available for comment?

I would like to monitor and change variables in a DB (the DB is quite big so I do not want to add one variable at a time) Kalle If you make a new DBwith a single tag made up of a custom plc datatype that is exactly the same as your current DB with many tags, you simply add the one DB.tag to the watchtable. Then hit the > button to expand and get the entire list of tags. This is very quick andeasyfor a new process you are developing, but not so easy for a running process you want to monitor. If you are setting up a new system, you may consider this option as a time saver. However, you can also select all from your DB, and paste into your watch table. NO typing. That said, in V12 SP1, while you are online, you can double click your DB from the project tree, then click the green > above your DB to monitor directly from the DB view. Again, NO typing required, and no watch table needed for a DB. I think I just gave you three options that require no typing if my math is right.

Select all elements in the DB. Go to custom PLC datatypes Add a new one, let's call it _DBn {where n = number of the DB copied above} For the first (and only) new field, call it c, of datatype struct. For the struct named c, for the elements, now paste all the data from your DB. Now when you create a tag with that datatype, _DBn, you can monitor the entire thing without a lot of effort. Is this the best way? Probably not, but it does give you an option.

Can you post a screen shot ? When the custom datatypes have "" around them, remove the quotes and let the portal put them back in. This is one of the bugs in V12 SP1.
