Adding non Siemens hardware to the Catalog? (SOLVED)

I was just wondering if anyone on this vast Forum has ever added a LinMot driver/controller .. specifically E1130-DP .. to their S7 TIA V11 SP2 update5 catalog? Thanks, Regards, Michael

(GENERAL NOTE) This question is related to the software and not the S7-1200 PLC. It would do better in the STEP 7 (TIA Portal) conference. You are welcome to press the "Inform Moderator" button and ask that the post be moved there. (ANSWER TO QUESTION) The manuafacturers that supply Profibus (DP) and Profinet (PN) certified devices also supply a hardward description file. For profibus it is called a GSD file and Profinet has another "name". You should be able to get that file from the manufacturer which will make it possible for you to add the device in the catalog. You will not be able to program it with TIA, but you will be able to select some network capabilities so that your PLC knows how to communicate with the new device. The settings you set inside TIA should be replicated in the physical device too. You will not be able to transmit the TIA information into the device using TIA. There are a whole discussion that can follow, but i recommend you first see if you can find the GSD file and the documentation relating to that. Helpful? w

I got this link from LinMot, thought you might be interested: http://linmot2.dynalias.net/plc_lib/libraries/Siemens_Step7_2010_Linmot_Library_v1.1.1_20140528.zip It may not be the correct one.. but, the other 2 they sent were definately for version 12 of the TIA. (I'm version 11) There definately is a GSD file in there (a GSD and a GSDML) and only supports S7 300 and S7 1500 CPU's .. well, DUH! .. Mine is S7 1200 .. sigh! If I ever get the right one... is the installation as simple as running the HSP files for hardware updates in Siemens? Back to LinMot... to be continued.. :-) Regards, Michael

Are you planning to ditch the digital I/O linking and link with Profinet? Consider using a router so you can have devices talk to each other and have the PC linked. Regards. w

Lamboom Posts: 90 Rating: (0)	.. The problem is, I don't know how to open the GSD, and install the file to the Portal. I don't have the software to open it. Unlike the easy way to update the hardware catalog, for siemens hardware.. And.. yes William.. The HMI & PLC were only a means I wanted to explore.. I don't know yet what be the final process. Most likely, in the end, I'll l be using a motion controller, generating the curves on the fly, and a LinMot "bumb" driver (no PID).. like the B1100 series. Everything created by the MC.. like a Delta RMC75. But, that's a ways away .. :-)

Lamboom Posts: 90 Rating: (0)	Hi William... I downloaded that GSD file successfully .. however, the connector is an RS9 .. need Ethernet .. I believe the driver is both .. I'll talk to LinMot about it. At least it's great progress downloading a GSD file into the TIA catalog .. Thanks a lot.... Much Regards, Michael
