Address priority and Pointers

gbs Posts: 178 Rating: (5)	Greetings, Is there a work around when using Symbolic address priority and using pointers? If I change a DB then my project is updated accordingly, however the obvious when using pointers ie P#DB1.DBX6.0 BYTE 2I am not so fortunate. Any work around? So that I can keep Symbols all areas priority. Cheers, gbs

gbs Posts: 178 Rating: (5)	Thanks for the response however that part is clear..... What is not clear is how to handle pointers i.e. P#DB..... I should have been more specific, the problem is using symbolic priority and when I start using Data Type ANY. So if i change lets say my DB then i will have an issue with the pointer not changing accordingly. Cheers, gbs

Aret Posts: 2348 Rating: (259)	The only way worth trying to solve the problem as i see it is making DB in such manner, that every pointer to fields of this could be expressed as symbol. Ex. - in DB you have x: ARRAY [0..7] OF BOOL y: BYTE z: REAL you know, that in your program you use pointer to x, to x+y, to x+y+z. Then you make UDT like MyType1 : STRUCT x: ARRAY [0..7] OF BOOL y: BYTE END_STRUCT MyType2 xy: MyType1; z: REAL; END_STRUCT. DATABLOCK DB_name ... value : MyType2; ... END_DATA_BLOCK After that pointer to x is "DB_name".value.xy.x, pointer to x+y is "DB_name".value.xy, pointer to x+y+z is "DB_name".value.
