Advantages in working COMOS?

Engr-Trainee Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	Hello All I am working in COMOS software now.but i am not able to find any advantages in COMOS when comparing with working in PCS7. I know that in COMOS there is a possiblity of developing Panel Design (E-Plan) too. But other than that according to me it is very long procedure to develop logic in COMOS. Can anybody tell are there anymore advantages in working COMOS? If so kindly send me the document for the same?

You can import data from PCS7, use your own created excel sheets or those from the supplier and make a configuration. The configuration could be process tag based (only process tags), signal (defining IO addresses) or both.. When your done with your configuration, you can import the excel data and then all your control modules (CFC charts with your logic) will be created... Then you export the data to PCS7 and voila, plant ready (sort of speak). you can even assign which SM modules and IM modules you want to use with the mlfb number.. When exporting, ET200 modules with IO modules are automatically created in your hardware AS!!!

However, what you have not been able to experience in COMOS are the following things: 1. Creation and management of templates, this allows you to configure standard cabinets (panels), I&C (P&ID) structures that have the automation components and logic included 2. Use of "pluggable" logic, the ability to configure interlocks and analog logic in COMOS, capture it in a template and reproduce large sections with drag and drop 3. Use of COMOS 10.1, where you also will find the Equipment Module Type (SFC) and new features for interfacing with control modules (commands, status) 4. The ability to work with multiple persons on a single project (working layer and database mechanisms of COMOS) 5. Ability to implement Control Module and Equipment Module types in COMOS and transfer their interface data to a PCS 7 project in a later stage (when the system integrator has been contracted) 6. Implement all your logic system neutral, that means that you can create re-usable templates that can be deployed on a PCS 7 V8.0 SP1, 8.1, ... etc. project without any additional effort 7. Print and export COMOS data (incl. logic) for implementation in systems other than PCS 7 (which means an OEM only needs to make one design) 8. Leverage the COMOS bulk-engineering tools (import, export, Query, scripting) 9. Allow process and instrumentation engineers to manage the definition of control modules and logic (interlocks, sequences), instead of having them document what they want and somebody else implement COMOS is an platform that puts new dimensions on engineering in regard to re-use, system neutral definition, collaboration between engineers and groups of engineers, integrate automation design with process design. I am sure that in the next few years, the engineering paradigm will change and these features will be a significant benefit to the industry.
