Alarm Acknowledgement in Redundant Servers

I've simulated an alarm and it's captured in the alarm table list on both server (redundant), but when I acknowledge the alarm on one of the server, the other server does not respond to the acknowledgement. Both servers are running the runtime HMI. I'm expecting upon pressing the ack button at one server, the other server must also knows that this alarm had been acknowledged. K

Salma Gold Member Joined: 9/27/2005 Last visit: 11/27/2007 Posts: 1398 Rating: (151)	Hi kee This is a common misconception that alarm acknowledgement is centralised across redundant servers. In the current version this is not true. As both servers are running their own copy of the project, acknowledgements are done on the local project only. To achieve centralised acknowledgement, so acking an alarm on one server shows the ack on the second server, you need to use the PLC. If you have an S7 PLC then you can use Alarm_S or Alarm_P blocks(more info in manual and faqs) in the PLC. In this way the acknowledgement is done in the PLC and passed up to both servers with the same timestamp. If you do not have an S7 then you can use the acknowledge tag in the Alarm Logging Editor (more info in the manual). However be warned that this method could lead to different timestamps on the two servers, leading to duplicate entries in the alarm history and a synchronisation. Finally I believe that the next version will have this feature built-in (hopefully!). Until then you need to configure this manually. A the viewpoint and opeartion at WinCC Client, is the alarm acknowledgement acknowledged 2 servers at one go? (cos WinCC server suppose to be transparent to Client)... K

The ack is passed from the client to the server and then to the PLC using Alarm_S / Alarm_8 and then passed to the other server. So using centralised acknowledgement will work on both servers and clients. Maybe this FAQwill answer some questions too.
