Alarm generation using DB's

Stevie Bramwell Posts: 17 Rating: (0)	Hi, I'm trying to raise an alarm on an 840D control, for example, normally I would use DB2.DBX190.0 to generate Alarm 700116 (i think). Using DB2 was how I was shown on my Siemens training, is in my manual and how I have done it in the past. I'm currently doing a simple modification and a DMC machine and when I do a cross reference for DB2 it doesn't appear to be used for the alarms. Could the machine be using a different DB for alarms? Having cross referenced all DB's, it looks like I have found what looks like the alarms, however it shows DB?.DBX190.0 What does the question mark mean? is it a protected DB? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Stevie

The differences in the CrossReference comes from the style of programming in the PLC: OPN DB2 A I 32.0 = DBX190.0 ==> You'll find DB?.DBX190.0 A I 32.0 = DB2.DBX190.0 ==> You'll find DB2.DBX190.0 hope that helps CNC600

If You're responsible for the entire PLC-program there's no problem. BUT: If You want to modify an already existing program there are interfernces with the original program. See this sample: OPN DB31 A I 32.0 = DBX2.1 ==> DB31.DBX2.1 becomes effective = DBX21.1 ==> DB31.DBX21.1 becomes effective If You insert You own new two lines anywhere in between: OPN DB31 A I 32.0 = DBX2.1 ==> DB31.DBX2.1 becomes effective A I 32.1 = DB2.DBX190.0 ==> Your new alarm message = DBX21.1 ==> DB2.DBX21.1 becomes effective here!!!! hope that helps CNC600
