Analog Input card Replacement

Danocane Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Hello All, I am new to this forum and new to Siemens S7-300 PLCs (have worked with several other brands for around 20 years). I am working on an existing S7 CPU 315-2 PN/DP rack system. There is a 6ES7 331-7KF01-0AB0 analog input card in slot 7 of this rack. We are only using thetwo inputs of channel onein this application with 4-20mA input signals. I have had the input signals rise to the maximum scaled value recently several times a day for the last couple of weeks. This may last for a few seconds up to a couple of minutes and then return to normal or expected signal levels (signals from pressure transmitters). In the process of troubleshooting this problem I have found that the actual pressure is not increasing to the levels that the PLC program is showing. I decided to change out the 6ES7 331-7KF01-0AB0 analog input card. All we have in stock at this time is 6ES7 331-7KF02-0AB0 analog input modules. I have updated the hardware configuration with the newer card data, saved and compiled, then dowloaded to the CPU. When I started the PLC the SF LED stays on the new card and the inputs stay at maximum scaled value. I have changed the hardware configuration back to the original module and re-installed the original module. There are five identical machines and one of them are down for rebuilds. SoI have swapped the analog input modules between the problem machine and the down machine. The problem has notappeared since theswap for the last two days. Of course the down machine can not be tested yet but is scheduled to come back online in a week. I can not seem find a manual or PDF file with information on the 6ES7 331-7KF01-0AB0 analog input card to see what the difference is between the 7KF02 and 7KF01. Does anyone have information on the 7KF01 analog module or experience in replacing this module with the 7KF02? Thanx Dan.

I already have this PDF file and it does decribe the 6ES7331-7KF02-0AB0 but no iformation on the 6ES7331-7KF01-0AB0. Both analog modules are Analog Input Module SM 331; AI 8 x 12 bits and each uses the measuring range modules on the side of the card. I had assumed that they would be interchangable as long as the hardware configuration had the appropriate module ID and the the input range was configured correctly and downloaded to the CPU. Each time I tried to replace the 7KF01 with the 7KF02 the SF LED would light up and stay on. Also the input would go to the maximum range and stay there. I would like to know if there is something I should be doing differently with the FC that is handling the PIW signal or something I am missing in the module configuration? Also is there some documentation specifically concerning the 6ES7331-7KF01-0AB0 that could shed some light on any difference in the way these two modules are handled? I have looked in the Siemens documentation or manual areas for more information. I am not very effecient at looking through and locating what I am searching for in these areas yet. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated. Thanx Dan

Danocane Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Thank you Wizard for the link. It did confirm my assumtion that the 7KF01 and 7KF02 modules were operationallyidentical. Well I have learned again (or should I say was reminded)today that not everything that comes from the stock room works correctly. I set up a S7-300 rack in my office and tested the first two 6ES7331-7KF02-0AB0 modules I had tried in the field. They both failed. I checked out another (a third) 6ES7331-7KF02-0AB0 module and tested in the office and the analog channels passed using a current loop validator. I plan on installing this module in the machine rack on Monday. I will reply next week as to the results.Thanx Dan.

Danocane Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	I did get a chance to install the Analog input card (6ES7331-7KF02-0AB0) I had tested last week. It functioned just fine after the hardware configuration update. The 7KF02 is a direct replacement to the 7KF01 as I thought it should be. From now on I will test any modules pulled from stock that are not in a sealed box before attempting to install in the field.
