Analog module, lower resolution from 10bit to 8bit

I wonder if i have a 10bit analog module, how can i lower the resolution to 8bit.

which resolution do you mean? Which hardware do you use?

You have with 10 bit everytime a higher solution then with 8 bit.

For example at 0...10 V 

With 8 bit (include sign) do you have a resolution of
2 exp (8-1) = 128 Increments per 10 V  = 78,125 mV/increment

With 10 bit (include sign) do you have a resolution of
2 exp (10-1) = 512 Increments per 10 V  = 19,53 mV/increment

That is a hardware thing... you have to replace hardware
to change the AD (analog to digital) converter resolution.

Knowing the hardware part number will help make suggestions.

If your problem is a noisy signal - you can always use a filter.
Depending on your hardware,
there are parameters available in the hardware configuration.
Otherwise a software filter can work.

If convertion speed is your issue... then you really do have a problem.

And keep in mind that all analogue values are left justified, i.e. no matter what is the resolution of the hardware in the end you will get full range 0 - +27648 or -27648 - +27648.
