Another S5 to S7 Upgrade Queastion:S7-300 to ET200U with CP521

bin mulyadin Experienced Member Joined: 3/2/2012 Last visit: 5/15/2023 Posts: 45 Rating: (0)	Dear Experts, The existing system is S5-115CPU main rack connected to two remote I/Os of ET200U using (IM318) 6ES5 318-8MB12. The upgrade scenario are: 1. S5-115CPU rack replaced with S7-300...this should be no problem 2. The ET200U will still be used...as far as I know this also will be no problem 3. In one of the Remote I/Os, there is CP521 (6ES 521-8MA21) connected to a device for meassuring. Now my question is: is this CP521 still can be "used" by S7-300? if yes, please teach me how?I need more document too.

Navnag Platinum Expert Joined: 11/21/2007 Last visit: 6/1/2023 Posts: 2321 Rating: (303)	Hello Theoretically it is possible to retain the CP521 in the ET200U rack even if you connect it to S7-300 instead of 115U. When you insert a ET200U rack in the PROFIBUS network of a S7 system, It allows you to insert Module of type 6ES5-521-8M.. Practically however it will depend on how it has been used in the S5 program. CP521 generally does not have any special communication blocks ( You basically communicate through reading / writing Input/output address areas. ) except for special cases like when you use Loadable Drivers e.g. Modbus. The S5 program of CP521 ( Converted to S7 ) will be basically the same except for the changed I/O addresses when special drivers are not used and in such cases you can retain when rack is used with S7 system. For more details Pl read : CP 521 SI Communications Processor Manual loadable driver MODBUS SLAVE for the CP 521SI BeVee I think you will need to replace the CP521 by an S7- CP340 module CP340 cannot be installed in a ET200U Rack. You will have to Install it in the CPU rack or a separate ET200M Rack. Hope this helps Cheers Navnag

aikona Posts: 487 Rating: (36)	Hi Just as a tip : We replaced a 115U with a S7-412 instead of going for a S7-315. The added bonus is that you can re-use the 115U I/Q connectors ( using an intermediate connector) it save a lot of work ... if you have to disconnect/reconnect 1000+ IQ's Eric
