My first interest is in buildingdynamic pointers duringruntime,in order to connect to TSEND and TRCV communication functions. Second issue is addressable data accesses. Buteven when findinga possibility to create pointers, so fare I don’t find a pointer based MOVE function. Would be great to have MOVE_BLK and UMOVE_BLK with additional "Start Offset" (exp. "+80" Bit (D)INT) for source and destination, so we would not need to fight POINTER-WARS or even talk about. best regards, Krono

But what do you think about the possibilitys for us users that you (Siemens) can supply us with a global library instruction for this matter, like the idea with “StartOffset”. I guess you can imagine how that would increase the performance and the market acceptance of S7-1200.Best regards,Krono

But just having the possibility of STL dose not automatically mean that indirect addressing, loops or accumulators comes with that, like we are used from the 300/400 series. I am aware that we are talking about the entry level of automation or better micro automation. Don’t get me wrong, I like the idea of S7-1200 very much, but I like it what it was planed for – micro automation. That’s why I don’t agree with all the wish list because I think this list is just a feature list of something you can have for some dollars more, on order code 6ES7 31x yz. BUT if there is no way to shift data controlled by variable parameters, without handle each data single or only by shifting whole blocks around their own axis, I know that the number of applications will be limited to me. Working with Siemens for years (not only PLCs) made me learning to work around problems and using integrated functions to my need, but in this case I don’t see a way around without blowing source code and cycle time. Don’t You think it’s worth to think about the idea (Block Move, StartOffset & library instruction) with some product managers. Siemens wouldn’t even need an SP, new Version Release or something else for that. Best regards, Krono

There are some more blocks where pointer is postulated. But the problem is, that you can't program a pointer for your own project. Maybe it will be possible in next service pack, but at the moment it's a big k.o.-criterion for many users.

rafmg Posts: 22 Rating: (1)	During a Tia Portal presentation event the product engineers says thath s7-1200 is better than s7-200 but after several hours spent with this toy-product (at least for the moment) i can shurely say that even step 7 microwin is far ahead. I mention s7-200 because i actually involved in the thankless task of porting s7-200 program (custom serial protocol) in TIA portal in which i used indirect addressing , SM's, and chr_rcv triggered tasks
