Array Tags as Indivual Tags or Not

While creating tags in WinCC Flexible '08, in properties if I give the array element then will it count as a Indivual tag or not. Say for, saving tags in WinCC Flexible if Iam giving array elements for the consecutive tag address, can I actually save the number of tags. In WinCC Flexi if Iam creating one sample tag as for eg. DB1.DBD 50 and array element as 5 (DB1. DBD50 to DB1.DBD66) In above case other 4 tags of array element (i.e. DB1.DBD54 to DB1.DBD66) are counted as one tag..?? How many tags will it count...?? Please give your expertisecomments, just to avoid some confussion...! Thanks in advance..., S7Mgr..

fritz Diamond Member Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 10/6/2024 Posts: 3024 Rating: (1054)	Hello S7Mgr It doesn't matter how many individual elementsyou use from the declared Array tag, the Array tag itself counts as only ONE tag. When you compile your flex project the number of used "powertags" isdisplayed in the "output" window, so you caneasily verify thisfor yourself. I hope this helps

I mean the indivual scanning of tags....if for 1 array tag Iam using cyclic execution of say 100 msthen what would be the scanning time for each 100 tags within it...??? Ihave also never used array tags .. and to some extentI would avoid using it only because of above reason...unless if I have some valid argument....I would probably go after it in some extreme unavoidable condition.... pigroplc Bronze Member Joined: 4/3/2008 Last visit: 10/5/2024 Posts: 386 Rating: (16)	I’ve been used tag array since Protool due to reduce the licences cost and I figured no problem at all about the tag update, The real limit I can figure is there is no overrange control at all for tag array, this can be considered no user friendly for the interface while you have to set data entry, but very useful while you are displaying some tag one way only.The other limit I can figure is the managing of data array tag effected the execution time of the script (I face some problem a couple of years ago and I forgot details). pigroplc

Bhaskaran Posts: 107 Rating: (13)	Hi all, In WinCC flexible an array tag is considered as a single power tag and this is one of the many feature which makes it more Flexible compared to WinCC. In WinCC you will be dealing with raw tags and struggling around with distributing the values which happens mainly with Scripts whereas you can address each single componet of the array tag in screen as well as script. The array tag therotically should not be a disadvantage as far as the update rate is concerned since data transfer in a contigous block is always more effecient as compared to individual tags. If this had not been the case then probably the bit buffered trends would have used some other format. If someone is worried about update time / loading of the network then once should invest some time in deciding which type of update is required for the application. There are basically three update types available Win CC namely Cyclic Continous, Cyclic in use and on Demand.

ranr_mids Bronze Member Joined: 12/5/2005 Last visit: 8/9/2021 Posts: 289 Rating: (19)	In a typical project, weuse aword tag to store all the binary signals to and from a device (low byte display, high byte control) and then manipulate the individual bits accordingly. This philosophy was developed whilst using WinCC, to reduce power tags. Would it be easier to use arrays of digital tags for this purpose? Could it go further? Could we array the analog tags, and still manipulate the bits individually?
