Assign IP address not working

jasonr Posts: 108 Rating: (2)	Hi, I have been trying to use the "Assign IP address" function of the online access section in TIA Portal, but have not been able to get it to work. I connect to a PLC with IP address 192.168.1.20. Then I open the "Online & Diagnostics" view for the PLC. I go to Functions -> Assign IP address and enter a different IP address, e.g. 192.168.1.21. When I click "Assign IP address", I get an error message at the bottom right of the window saying, "The set command could not be executed." When I refresh the information by going to a different section of the "Online & Diagnostics" view and coming back again, I find that the "Use router" tick box has been selected, even though I never selected it, and the router address is 192.168.1.21. The actual IP address of the PLC has now changed back to 192.168.1.20. Does anyone have any ideas about what is going wrong? Thanks Jason

jasonr Posts: 108 Rating: (2)	Hi huggy, I can set the IP address by creating a PLC in a project with the IP address I want and downloading the hardware configuration to the IP address of the PLC as it already is. This works fine, but it seems strange to me that the "Assign IP address" feature of the online view in TIA Portal does not work. It'd be a handy thing to be able to use, and I thought it might just have been that I was doing something wrong. Is it known that there is a problem with this feature? Jason

Jason If your PLC already has an IP address, but it differs from your PG subnet then you will not set an IP. If PG and PLC are on the same subnet then it works. At least it is true in my case.

When trying to change the IP address of the PLC from 192.168.1.20 to 192.168.1.21, as described in my initial post, the PG IP address is 192.168.1.208. I have not been able to find any information on the error message that appears when I try to make the change: "The set command could not be executed." The attached zip file contains screenshots showing the screen at the following stages of the process of changing the IP address: 1 - Before changing anything. The IP address is 192.168.1.20 2- After entering the new IP address: 192.168.1.21 3 - After clicking "Assign new IP address". Error message: "The set command could not be executed." 4 - After going to a different page and returning. The IP address has returned to 192.168.1.20 and the IP address of 192.168.1.21 has been set as the router address, even though this option was never selected. 0_Einstein Diamond Member Joined: 7/7/2010 Last visit: 3/17/2025 Posts: 15724 Rating: (2487)	In looking at the screenshots, it looks like you are using remote profinet io (ET200S) and that is the device you are setting the address for. You can set them up several ways, but I think the previous suggestion to reset and set the ip address may not be correct in this case. Since you are using the ET200S for remote io, are you setting it up using the network connections as that is the right place to configure everything if I have read correctly.

I am not sure what you mean by "using the network connections" to change the IP address. Does the "Assign IP address" function of the online and diagnostics view not work for these particular CPUs? The ET200S is a device for remote I/O? I have yet to use it in a project but see several systems I help support that use them with S7-300 PLCs. I think this may be a pro level TIA portal problem and I only use tia portal base with the S7-1200 (at least for now). Will still try. Attachment ET200S_Devices.jpg (1788 Downloads)

Jason When you get the answers back from your support request, please post the solution here. I am unable to test any theories, but I have only used that function one time for testing on an S7-1200 project. I typically just download the project with the ip address and settings I need, portal scans the network for like devices, I pick the one that is correct, download and start. It works very well that way. I assume that is how you did it initially. It also works to change the address as I did that when I set the address, then changed it for testing, and changed it back. Maybe that is all you really need to solve the problem?
