I have sent an email from an S7 1200 cpu 1212c with an attachement. How can I open the attached file that I have received? With what program? The attachement is a DB withe an array of 10 bytes

Hi,

if you don´t project a String in Attachment_name your Attachment will named as "attachment.bin".

Try to open this file with a Text Editor or Excel.

I have managed to put a name to the attached file with no problem. When I receive the email it has the file attached to it, I download it and when I  try to open it it asks me to choose with what program. I choose Notepad but I get unreadable symbols when the file opens.

this file looks ok to me, it's char/byte sequence, as you wish, in my hex looking pls check my attachment.

Update: simply if your file hasn't extension, what program to open with? You can make extension .txt for example'.

can you explain how you managed to open the file?

because i tried renaming the file by adding to it a ".txt" extension and then I tried to open it again with notepad but the result was the same unreadable characters again

but this will be same everytime my friend, because that characters representation/value isn't in range of characters from ASCII code like chars 0..9 and also A..Z and also little a..z. Look, you need study this problematic to understand, no problem now, look in web to ASCII table and it's content as characters and codes. Then you can quickly understand what's matter. Simply your file include 'driving' characters that are not simply interpreted like chars, maybe sometimes as sound beep

Update: your example file I've open in Total Commander, but you will see it's content same with any other viewer as I mentioned.

Update2: ok to be clear to you with that my Picture, there is some option to show that sequence as HEX content, so there you can see 10 Bytes as

01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 0A

After that byte 08 is | char, it's only delimiter to know where is 8 bytes end. On right side is probably char sequence as you also see in your file. Hope now it is clear to you.
