First things first, the Build:

Image Version: V15.00.00.04_01.01 (TIA Portal V15 Update 4)

Device TP1500 Comfort V2

Bootloader Version V01.00.02.07_00.01.00.00

Here is the issue:

I have numerous HMI panels that randomly stop sending their audit trail to a Simatic Server. The issue can be seen on the HMI when the Pop-up screen (Network ID) appears requesting the User to enter a password. An image is attached showing the Pop-up screen. The user then needs to shutdown the application and enter he password in the Network ID Password entry field. If the application is not shutdown the password does not hold and the pop-up screen reappears immediately. Having tracked the date/time at which they stop working, when the password has been entered and the date/time they stop working again I am convinced that this is random as the uptime of the system working can range between 50 hours and 1022+.

The Configuration:

The HMI Panel has a Username, Password & Domain name entered and the Audit trail file transfer works fine until it randomly stops sending the file.

The project has been configured in TIA Portal V15 Update 4 as mentioned and is set to use a Simatic Server where the Server name, Port Number & Windows Domain fields have been filled in correctly.

Areas that have been checked:

The Simatic Server has individual shared folders configured to allow the HMIs to write data to it so the file sharing on the server is not an issue.

This issue is happening on numerous HMIs (TP900, TP1200 & TP1500) which rules out a specific HMI type as the root cause.

A report on the Network activity has shown that there has been no issues in connectivity. (The HMIs and Server are on the same IP Range with no firewall in between)

I should also mention that there are two Simatic Servers on site and both have seen the issue from their respective HMIs. A patch for the servers was installed to prevent the shared folder from dropping off due to inactivity which was a separate issue in the beginning.

A further complication is that there are two HMIs that do not have this issue. The big difference between these two HMIs and the HMIs with the issue is that these applications have been built on TIA V15 Update 3 rather than having been migrated from ProTool to WinCC Flex to TIA V13 ( and some to the later version of TIA V15)

Having compared the projects of the non-issue/issue HMIs in TIA V15, there is nothing that sticks out as being the obvious cause of this issue.

Looking at the HMI Panel itself does not show any obvious difference either.

So, I'm hoping that someone with more knowledge or experience with issues like this can help me out in finding the root cause. It may be a case that it is an issue with the migration, It could be that the Bootloader version of the two HMIs are slightly later at V01.00.02.12_00.02.00.00 (The Image version and HMI type being equal) than the HMIs with the issue or maybe there is a simple setting that needs to be checked/unchecked. I would be grateful for all ideas you may have.

Thanks for the reply on my post.

It turns out that if you update the password (or username) in that field then you have to Factory Reset the panel.

A note in section 3.5 from Siemens in their doc Integrating HMI Operator Panels in TCP/IP Networks states:

General information on logon data

I have 32 of these panels with password changes all the time!!!
