I am using a Unified Comfort Panel MTP700 running V18 with a S1200 controller. 

I have a report configured to be made at the end of a process cycle, but I need the report to automatically print at the CUPS printer. 

I have a Brother printer connected and configured to work as the default for the system.

Is there a certain argument I need to pass to Evince?  How can I configure it to select the timestamped PDF file name?

I also need to be able to have an alarm trigger if there is a printer error or the print job doesn't complete.

I think you cannot print out directly by generating the Report.

You wuold have to make a script and use  the filesystem functions to get the filename. Then you would have to execute the PDF Viewer or Libre Office for printing with commandline parameters...

I have never done it in live but theoretically this should work...

The WinCC Unified JavaScript Object Model does not currently provide access to CUPS. And I do not expect this feature in the future. However, there may be a way to use the "StartProgram" method to execute the "lp" command to print a document. Unfortunately, I do not have a supported printer to test, but in my brief test I saw a document in the queue after running the command.

thankyou for this information. Do you have a reference for the "IP" command to be used via the "StartProgram" method? I cannot find any specific reference to the IP program command in my searches.

I am also looking to automate printing of an excel report from an event triggered javascript in the WinCC Unified runtime environment.

I am currently working on a project that requires physical printing of report information, so I will do some testing next week and report back with some details if I can get it working with a Phsyical printer attached to the Unified Panel.

So i managed to get something working here. it might not be the exact solution everyone needs but its something that works for me.

The below command will print an libreOffice (or excel) file to the specified printer. This works in 'headless' mode which means the command runs in the background so no display of libreoffice program on the HMI screen.
