Autosaving TIA Portal

Might be a good solution to the crashing issues in TIA?? It's here http://www.door2windows.com/autosaver-save-the-file-you-are-working-on-automatically/ Would love to know how everyone gets on with it and maybe Siemens will one day implement an autosave of their own. I mean, how hard can it be?????

peterplavec Posts: 28 Rating: (1)	Thank you for your post, I may give this app a try! I am big fan of autosaving. But than again I am just a programmer-beginner. I think Siemens has its own reason why he will not implement such functionality.

I personally preffer to decide If I want save something or not. Just imagine: You are on call out 0300AM, read an unknown code and by accident delete a line.Autosave... Done. You do not even know. Without autosave, you are asked if you save when you close the block. I think that is why there is no autosave. Also third party sw with Simatic. That is also a bad choice! Be carefull!

pawel_wieczorek Posts: 1 Rating: (0)	Hello, I can see that we are now in TIA V15 and there is no backup / autosave option in the software... As it was mentioned before - how hard can this be??? Others does have it and there is no problem with this... Now just imagine: You are working on a project and you are performing some tests on a machine. You have changed bit here and bit there in the code. And then CRASH - TIA shut down with a fault. You do not have any option to save your last program state - you have lost all your work and you start all over again. Another couple of hours wasted!!! Very frustrating especially when TIA does perform 'crash' at least once a day and it perform it in any state - during compiling or saving project!!! It does not mean that you do not have to save your project - you should do this in TIA as often as possible - but if it will take snapshot of your work in between saving the project and then after 'crash' it could notify you that there is an 'unsaved' part of work and if you wish to see it.

As for the concern about autosaving unintended changes: Well, solutions for that scenario have been around a long time. It could be done the way Microsoft Office applications restore after a shutdown: There will be autosave files stored on the computer. It is then up to the user to review these files and choose the correct one. Come on Siemens... I will be spending the day redoing yesterdays work after an (unannounced) automatic shutdown.

It is not a difficult thing to do as it is only a matter of recording transactions separately, To restore you just go back to the last save and execute the transactions like any DB can.
