For all Ethernet solutions, if you are going with CAT5, CAT6 cables is 100m and then you need a switch/router. But this you can getto about 1kmby using fibreoptic. All serial communication like Profibus, MODBUS etc. the lengths are in the range of 100 to 1200m depending which baudrate you are using. For MPI it is maximum 50m. Profibus PA is used as a replacement for 4 to 20mA. Basically from transmitters instead of converting from the A/D conversion and then t o 4 to 20mA, the digital is directly sent over using profibus protocol. So it is completely different from the conventional instruments. Have a look at the following link for more information on Profibus (including PA) http://www.profibus.com/downloads/ Krish |
