Best Antenna in a Steel Plant

Vini_ Posts: 7 Rating: (0)	In a Bread Factory, i want to put in communication 2 rooms. In One of them (room 1) there are some big steel silos ( full of flour) and many steel pipes, The second room is also full of Steel silos. Both rooms are also separated by a thick wall. So i have the next devices:SCALANCE W788-2PRO and also aANT792-6MN antenna with a 2 mts cable. Which antenna or configuration would you recommend? We thought in the next configuration. TheW788-2PRO up centered in the ceiling of the room 1, and theANT792-6MN, in the other room with a longer cable. Could it be possible? Would it be better a Rcoax Cable? Regards

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (411)	Dear Vini_, I am sorry but telling you what to choose at a forum... without a better understanding about your requirements and conditions would lead you and us into deep trouble. What I would do first of all is getting someone on site with the capability to design your network and does a site survey, to check the conditions for Wireless LAN at your site. Usually someone who is able to do something like this would have a tool like SINEMA Eto design and place the suitable antennas at locations which would fill your needs best. Using RCOAX Cable would only be recommendable if you need low ranges you want to use WLAN at. For example if you have monorail conveyors... but for the mobile use, I don't think this would be useful. For more support I would recommend to you to contact your local SIEMENS representative, they should be able to get you in touch with a specialized department. Best regards J_Bell

I also want to add something. If you choose to use the ANT792-6MN you use 2,4 GHz. Are you sure there is no channel overlapping from different Wireless AP's/Devices in the area? Maybe 5 GHz is a better way to go. In most cases 5 GHz isn't used in factories which means less interferences from different communication systems. And since you mention a lot of steel. It's better to use diversity. This means 2 antennas connected to one interface (sides A & B). This is very helpful with a lot of reflections which is common in the area you want to use the WLAN. Only one of the 2 Antennas will be active and the devices will automatically pick which one by measuring the signal quality at both antennas. Good luck!

Vini_ Posts: 7 Rating: (0)	At this moment, What i have is 3 other AP in the factory, all of them with same SSID and pasword, but working in different channels (1, 5, 11) in 2.45 Ghz. Is better to change to 5 Ghz, with same SSID, and different channels?. Regarding your comments with Interfaces, i only enable one interface in each AP, and each point have 2 antennas (the ones which came in the box:2 ant795-4MR).
