Best Way to uninstall and reinstall PCS7

Smulekar™ Posts: 27 Rating: (2)	Its always advised to Format the drive in order to uninstall PCS7 but i have sucessfull done it without formating my drive. Follow the steps... 1)Uninstall all the Simatic Components from Control Panel --> Add remove options. 2)Restart the pc whenever asked during uninstallation. 3)After all the components are removed go to Start --> Run --> msconfig 4)Go to Start up tab in msconfig and select Disable allthen restart PC 5)After Restart go to Start --> Run --> regedit 6)Delete all the simatic folders in regedit.and close regedit 7)Delete Siemens folder from Program file folder. 8)Restart and install PCS7 again. This worked for me.. try out and reply Regards, Sam

I've done it on >6, and while it appeared to work on each one of them, there were notable differences in side-by-side comparisons, especially when it came to servers. You could predict some of the ones which would have a problem because the installation process would not complete normally and it either meant going through all the uninstall steps again and reinstalling. My unscientific conclusions: If you uninstall and reinstall, you may (note: I did not say will) have inconsistencies If you install over a fresh HD image, it is unlikely you will have any problems What it came down to for us, it's more efficient in the long run to wipe the disk and reload. Among all the factories I'm involved in supporting, there are 8 more servers and about 30 more clients to be done. We will do them from a fresh install (V6.1 -> V7.0 SP1)

I guess PCS7_id10t is right.

For many years I used the FAQ below

FAQ:How can you completely uninstall STEP 7 including all the software packages?

But it's easier and fasterto use a new installation. Just do a disk image of your HD (only with Operational System), and then you install PCS7 packages.

You can have .bat files to install the image (from other disk partition, D: for instance), then you installPCS7 from network (this is usefull if you have to install in many PCs a new version). And don't forget to remove the licenses or keep them in another disk partition (E: for instance).

My partner preferred to have two installations going at a time, so he did them all. Personally, I do not have the patience to install Windows (or PCS7 for that matter) We were forbidden from using the network for our install. Otherwise I would have set up a server to do automated installations of Windows and PCS7 from a script. Sure I could have set up an ad hoc network and use the spare servers I have, but was discouraged from doing that. I'm very particular about the MS default installation values for security, etc. and would go over every machine using gpedit (group policy editor console). This is where setting up from a network would have been extremely useful. I tried to configure it so the machine would boot from a DVD, repartition the target hard drive, reformat it, and then install Windows first, then the service packs, hotfixes and updates, security settings, etc. and then prompt for the SQL Server install. I got it to where I could do everything except repartition the hard drive.

After I reinstall the PCS7 ES with the required version (PCS7 V7.1 no SP ) the script server of the station started to crash. The ES part worked OK, but something was not exactly right with the OS.
