Protected blocks generally can be unprotected, but this is not allowed by Siemens and I don't know who will help you. But answer is yes, blocks can be unprotected. If you have sourcecode for blocks than you can unlock the by legal methods. You need just to delete option 'KNOW_HOW_PROTECT" in source code and recompile it. Then block will be unprotected.

fritz Diamond Expert Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 9/13/2024 Posts: 3020 Rating: (1054)	Before anyone decides to spend his hard earned money on some third party tools, be aware of the following: Siemens (quite cleverly) changed the way a KNOW_HOW_PROTECTED Block is compiled from the source file (from memory this was introduced with Step7 V5.3). Put simple, all comments (headers & line comments) except for the Main Block comment (which is also visible when opening a protected block) are now removed when doing a source file compilation with KNOW_HOW_PROTECT active. What this means is that if you "unprotect" aBlock in an "unorthodox way", you'll be greeted with pure code withoutcomments. KNOW_HOW_PROTECTION has also - for obvious reasons - never been a "good" way of protecting your intellectual property from being copied/stolen and used in an unauthorised way. If you need to do so (and let's face it, especially Machine OEM's really do unfortunately suffer from this), you are better off linking your program to the serial number of the memory card (see here for more on this). Bottom line is, if we would all do the "right thing" and respect other peoples work as theirs, there'd be no need for any of this (the day will probably never come but it doesn't hurt to dream does is?).

There are also afree of charge tools,better way is to do it yourself if you know the way.But it doesn't mean that it could/should be also here, official Siemens forum. I wrotethis few times here - it's the same like put to any developpers site the crack tool for their products. Thecase with comparationof load memory serial numberisn't solution, because it's just other part of the program itself which could be changed. The modification which is planned in the mentioned S7 protector could be a solution, but it's also very dangerous. It's sufficient for using in some machine or whatever once programmed and nobody supposed to touch it anymore. But normally you lock the block which has somedefined function andis a part of some library. This could be used by other persons or maybe just in a customer's backup for restoring possibility. Then there's a pretty big chance to damage thecode as it's described on their site. What we do is very similar as fritz suggested, we use a script which rebuilds the source code, i.e. removes all networks, gaps, commentsand localvariables, then the block is locked. It doesn't solve the case, but at least makes the code harder to read/understand. Regards Sydney

And I am sure that if Siemens wand to make this software they can do it easily. But the point here as you have wrote. It's not logic to make facility to protect your software and to make a tool to break it or a crack for it! So My question now is for LaLit. Why do you want to break the protection? If you have made this software your self, then you should have the source code somewhtere. Otherwise, it will be unlegal to break it. Regards,
