Can I use 2 serial interface module (1SI 3964/Ascii) on one ET200S?

Pex Posts: 10 Rating: (0)	I'm going to communicate with 2 devices (RS232)... I build a program and have succesfully send ascii-characters to my PC via a serial cable but when I try to send data to both moduls at the same time they both stop working (the one that worked stops blinking and sending data). I have tried to separate the call to each module to different cycle-laps but it didn't change anything... Since only one of the two moduls are connected to a device(PC) when I'm testing, could this be the problem, but I think the one connected should at least be working... They work perfect separatly (removed call to the other one) and are using different DB's when calling serial "driver" FB3 Or is it only possile to use one serial interface module (1SI 3964/Ascii) on one ET200S? kind regards Peter

Is the software that you made one block that is used for both 1SI blocks... Which configuration are you using, please place the software on the forum, when you not wanted that to do, then please send me a Private Messages so that you could give your email address.

Pex Posts: 10 Rating: (0)	The code is orginally from Siemens Ascii demo for the 3964 module, only changed the hardware address and length of send data... Since the demo uses FC21, DB40 and 42 I copied those to FC22, DB44 and 46, and used those for the second module. They work perfectly separatly but when both FC22 and FC23 are called (in FC24) they both stops. This is the code I use .... The first module has start address 272 and the second has start address 280 due to Hardware configuration.. I have encapsulated the call to FB3 in FC21 and FC22 as you can see, sending 5 char from DB42... and DB46. Are there any other "special" cards in your system (controled by the same CPU), this because FB3 and FB4 uses SFC14, SFC15, SFC50 and SFC51.... SFC14/15 is no problem, SFC50/51 might be a problem, it is for reading the System Status List {SSL}, I don't know when that is used. A smaller CPU could have less resources... Have you tried with first one 1SI and then not calling the software of that any more and then the other one (I see that both modules are called in one block, from FC24 where FC21 and FC22 are called). So call the FC21 and FC22 conditional.... so that not both modules are called in once.

That will not work..... both FB3 need there own instance datablock, because all the data that is in DB21 is for one call. So try first to give both calls of FB3 their own Instance Datablock. I think that is the error !

Pex Posts: 10 Rating: (0)	Yes it works with different Db's . I do know that the instance db is used to save the parameters for the FB... I thought that the data assigned to the FB in the first call immediatlly was send to the module and therefor could the same db be used in the second call. This was obiously wrong, I suppose the data is send at the end of the cycle, same as with the outputs. Or am I totally wrong here... Please enlighten me... kind regards Peter ps. don't be hard on me, I just changed employment, I haven't programmed PLC's in eight years, only client/server developmen in windows.... But I love being back in business.
