Can i use as output the i/o Card DI/DO SM 1223 for PWM signal?

Regardless, PTO1/PWM1 uses the first two digital outputs, either on the CPU or on the attached signal board. The default output numbers are Q4.0 (PWM1) and Q4.2 (PWM2). But you could change them according your needs. To prepare for PWM operation, first configure a pulse channel in the device configuration by selecting the CPU, then "Pulse Generator (PTO/PWM)", and choose either "PWM1" or "PWM2". Enable the pulse generator (check box). If a pulse generator is enabled, a unique default name is assigned to this particular pulse generator. You can change this name by editing it in the "Name:" edit box, but it must be a unique name. Names of enabled pulse generators will become tags in the "constant" tag table, and will be available for use as the PWM parameter of the CTRL_PWM instruction. Best regards, Hristo Mihalev

It only offers me to change addresses to other sb 1223 addresses in the pulse generator setup dialog. Is there something else that needs to be done first to use a sm 1223 rather than sb 1223 for pwm/pto?

The relays cannot act quickly enough, nor do they have enough cycles before failure to use them for PWMs. newbiplc Are you sure about this? Is there something else that needs to be done first to use a sm 1223 rather than sb 1223 for pwm/pto? Only on-board transistor outputs (which include a signal board) can be used for PTO/PWM. The signal module is not able to do so. High time periods needed for the pulse can be programmed with the user program which can use the signal module. But we are talking perhaps of 5ms on-time, at the "fastest". BR

For one, you cannot toggle them fast enough (in most cases) to achieve the expected pulse rate, and if you could, how quickly would they cease to function? And, how quickly would the module cease to function after the relay burns out the electronics in the module from the inductive spikes (kicks) from repeated on/off cycles. newbiplc That's kinda how I thought it was. We can do the same with relay outputs too even though it may be a bad idea, no?
