kentd Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	We have a 840D with PCU20 version 6.5 The program directory will not allow any more programs. There is memory available but there must be a limit on progam names. Can an alternate directory be configured? Another question. Is this control capable of ethernet communication? It has a port and during boot it shows a controller. What would I need to do to get this on our network? Thanks

rantu Posts: 38 Rating: (0)	Hi, Normally in 810D / 840D as a standard only max of 100 programs can be loaded to NC(including standard cyles / user cycles / manufacturer cycles and any other cycles). We can increase it but the machine data are memory organising parameters i.e. if we change the parameters then compelte NC Memory structure is re organised .i.e equal to formating of NC memory all user data will be lost. If you do not know it the procedure its better to call Siemens Service guy to do so. Other wise you may land into more problems.... Regards Rantu

kentd Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	Thanks for the reply. I should clarify my post. I mistyped 840, should be 810 if that makes a difference. Also we are using the Manual Turn exclusively at this time.It looks like there are about 300 programs stored in the directory. The directory takes 20 to 30 seconds to load due to the number of entries. The memory shows plenty of room available but an error regarding too many files. On the cnc mode I can see and move program files to other folders but it is slow to be moving in and out ona regular basis. Is there a way to access other folders in the Manual Turn side of things. I will try the network method as all our other cnc machines are Fanuc and are tied to the net. Would still like to be able to use other folders until I can get the net up and running. Thanks Kent

Password set is sunrise. Munufacturer level. What do I need here? Also can you give a little more definition on the required computer name, folder name, and server name? Is this system going to be linked to only the defined computer? Is the server the fileserver, domain server or is it a computer running an access program to interface with the pcu20? I'm just a little vague on this as these terms can have so many mutiple definitions. Thanks and again sorry to be such a novice on this system. Kent

kentd Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	OK, Bear with me, I have been able to enter the info now after doing the server info first. I now can see the net traffic between the PCU20 and my laptop. When it tries to read the directory I get the "structuring directory" message and then after long dwell "unable to read". I don't have the HMI embedded manager software, but thought I still should be able to do tcp/ip communication without it. Is the software absolutely required or am I just having permission issues? If I do need the software, is it available for download, or can you email it? Thanks for your input. Kent
