Can't get PCcard working

Stira Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	Hi, We have been having awful trouble getting programs onto our milling machine, this is our first CNC mill (XYZ minimill 560 with siemens 802D controller). The card is not being picked up, we're trying to do this by going to program manager and read in, a window pops up saying it's importing data but then nothing else happens. There is one thing that bothers me about the card reader and that's that the NC light flashes constantly, is that normal? I would have thought it would only flash when it's exchanging data. The card does work, it's compact flash in a PCcard, I've tested the card on an old laptop and it could be read. We even bought a supposedly special PCcard off XYZ as they told us the controller wouldn't accept standard cards. Reading through the forum and documentation there's talk of a program called WinPCIN, do we need to run our code through that software first? We currently generating it in RhinoCam. I also read talk of software version not seeing the card reader, How do we fix that. We are new to CNC but have made good progress up until this stage of trying to get programs from PC to Milling machine. Any help would be greatlyappreciated we've been stuck at this stage for a while.

Ekalavya Posts: 2964 Rating: (484)	Hello.... What card is this? if it is a PCMCIA card it is used in 802D. If it is compact flash card it is used in 802DSL... could you confirm? Best Regards,

Ekalavya Posts: 2964 Rating: (484)	Hello,,, OK...so your using PCMCIA card for data transfer of part programs? Have you formatted the PCMCIA card and check? >Switch off the machine. Insert the PCMCIA card. >Switch ON. Press select key on the kepad. >You get Service Menu in that select Format PC card. The card will get formated and FFS file will get loaded. by the by how are you inserting in to your laptop? do you have Sinucom FFS software with you.... check it out.. Best Regards, Ekalavya

Stira Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	Thanks for the help, Just to clarify the PCMCIA card is aconverterone with a compact flashpluggedinto it. We're disconnecting the card and plugging it into a usb multi card reader. Did as instructed and got to the menu, tried to format the card but nothing seems to be happening. I can scroll down to the format card option but when I press select nothing happens. Nothing seems to work on that menu, I tried both the select and left and right arrow as a way of confirming selection but I can't see any activity. The card doesn't seem to beformattedwhen I plug it back into the pc. Is it working away just not giving any notification? The card is 512mb which is pretty big for the task, could it just be a slow process on such a big card? There's no sign ofactivity the underscore isblinking andtwo lights on the readeritselfare on solid.

Ekalavya Posts: 2964 Rating: (484)	Hello Stira... As told by RAM81 Compact flash card doesn't work in 802D. What is your exact requirement only part program need to be transfered/ machine backup to be stored in PCMCIA card. You can use WINPCIN tool which is availabe in toolbox CD for data transfer of part program and for machine backup too. You should have PCMCIA(Personal Computer MemoryCard InternationalAssociation)card of 8MB which is only suitable for this. PCMCIA card type no 6FC5247-0AA11-0AA1. You can get in touch with Regional Siemens office for ordering the same. Regards, Ekalavya

We want to use the card to transfer code from Rhinocam package onto the milling machine.

Stira Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	I got that card as advised and have spent the last while trying to get that to work. The Machinedoesn'tseem to be able to read or write to it but it does see it. I've tried it on a number of computers but it'sinaccessibleand causing a driver error called PCMCIA MTD 002 in device manager. Researching the internet I can't tell weather I need to buy a driver or a special reader? What do I have to do to get the card working?
