Can't start up as a standard windows users

I am having trouble getting Step 5 to start up as a standard user in windows 7 enterprise 32 bit. When I click to start what flashes up:

Step 5 critical error:

s5_vdd.ddl error #1

program cant load

If I do the same with the admin account, it works fine. Now it gets weird though. If I start step 5 using the admin account and "X" out of it as opposed to exit, switch accounts to the normal user and start it again, it works fine, until I want to close it down where  I can't terminate the drivers until I switch back to admin account. Giving someone Admin rights to a computer would be security risk so we need a way around this problem.

Step 5 was never designed to be compatible with Windows 7.

Please have a look at the following compatibility matrix for Step 5 versions and Windows OS:

Basically this means that when installing Step 5 (no matter which version) on a Windows 7 OS (no matter which version) you are taking all responsabiolity for the stability of the system.

My last experience with Step 5 was with v. 7.23,  on a Win XP SP3 computer, and all functions and drivers were supported adequately.

The only suggestion i can provide at this stage would be to setup a Virtual machine of some kind with a version of Windows that matches your version of Step 5, and work with such a system.

Thanks for the reply dchartier,

I suggested that and they decided it was safer to give admin rights to the computer. Step 5 runs fine on Windows 7 despite not being supported. It is just there are settings that need to be set and admin rights to be given to run from any account that is not the default admin account.
