The issue is that the timing on MPI is rather rough, so you will have difficulties without a certain logic to transfer from RS 232 to RS 485 and there especially to MPI. You may know that there have been some MPI Adaptors for the RS 232 interface but they have not been transparent, so you could not use them just as cable. The Protocol used on MPI, which is a close relative to PROFIBUS, is very restrictive. So I fear you will not be able to make it, even if you would use some kind of Gateway between RS 232 and RS 485. What do you intend to get done by this configuration? Best regards J_Bell

What it does - among other things - is that you connect devices (speaking a different protocol) and they are able to talk to each other. It is not a passive component if you are looking for something like that. Haven't used it thoroughly myself, but I think it is capable of converting MPI to RS-232 quite succesfully. However, I am planning to take a good look at it, since business is not that demanding during August. The link here can give you lot more info on the specifications: Vlinx Fieldbus Gateway. J_Bell What do you intend to get done by this configuration? I have to say that if you would elaborate a bit, it would be helpful. Hope this helps
