edec Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Hi all, I installed an opc server to communicate with a Sirec D200 recorder. Since then, my communication with S7 PLC thru the Softnet opc server is not working at all and I can't open the station configurator. I reinstalled everything without success. I am running 6.2 SP1 with NCM mgr 5.3 sp1 on win2k3 sp1 Help !

But to be honest I think this is a real compatibility issue. You mention that you use SIMTIC NET 6.2 SP1 combined with Win2003 SP1 this is not released for being used together. Which SIMATIC NET software component is enabled for which operating system? Without a Service Pack and if it's a R1 the software would be compatible but I think it's better to upgrade Simatic Net towards v2007.

Just for this I would advice you to upgrade towards a compatible SImatic NET. If you buy a upgrade package it isn't really expensive.

Who's OPC server is it - custom or a commercial package? (- or - being a SiRec 200, is it Siemens ??) I would hazard the following guess: The newly installed OPC server is changing the COM settings (not to be patronizing, but COM=Component Object Model - not to be confused with COM Port numbers). This has broken your communications. Are you familiar with checking your COM settings? If not, I'll post a document on what to look for (I have to find it on my laptop, otherwise I'd just post it already) Look at the settings on a computer where all the Siemens software is installed without the new OPC server Then look at the one that's broken. You may see a difference. Of course, they must both be the same OS. The other possibility is you have entered DLL Hell with your new OPC Server. Jim

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, you are absolutely right INS, I also think that especially with a Server OS you have so many compatibility issues that it is impossible to run Software that is only released for this OS without any SP and you have the SP1 on the OS. Whoshould warranty that the changes made with the installation of the "new" OPC Server did not change basic settings or installed some different DLLs on the PC? Did you verify with the manufacturer of the Software that this software is certified with the OPC foundation and is released for this version of the OS? Ifthis is the casethe only way for you, in my mind, is to install at least the Edition 2005 + HF 1 of SIMATIC NET, nothing else will enable you to get at least support at all. Best regards J_Bell

edec Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	J_Bell, Ins, I finally got everything back running with 6.2 SP1. But you were right about Siemens support, they suggest to upgrade at least to 6.3 which I will do. It seems that the problem was related to the DCOM settings that were recommended by Siemens for their SIREC D OPC server were conflicting with the ones for the Simatic OPC. Even though I have played with DCOM a lot, it is always painful and I still haven't found a good document explaining how it works exactly and how application are using it. Most document are removing all securities and leave everyone with full control. So Ins, if you have your document handy, can you send me a copy. Thanks everyone for your help. edec

It's kinda hard to handle. there are several FAQ's available on the CS Site about this topic. Commissioning PC Stations - Manual and Quick Start In chapter 18 is some information about DCOM. But since it's a Siemens document it's created with the Siemens software in mind. If you want a real DCOM Training the following institute is very interesting: http://www.opcti.com/
