Cannot access S7-300 from TIA Portal V13

Now that you have it running, are you going to image it so you can always get back to a "running" and working copy ready for a legitimate license? OR, was this purely to find out if you really want/need V13 for your project? Luckily with the floating license, you can pop it around between your VM, your regular windows setup, and pretty much anything you have a v13 compatible license manager installed. Of course, you knew this, but everyone reading this may not.

Actually we are getting field PG machines for TIA Portal as TIA Portal is a bit (ok a lot) slow in a VM. We need to use V13 as my boss wants us to use the lastest a greatest(?) version. I have sent all my discoveries to our software administration department so they can add my changes to the VM image so that others don't have to waste 4 days effort like I did. This is my first time in anger with TIA Portal and the love affair has not begun well.
	Programming today is the race between software engineers building bigger and better idiot proof programs, and the universe producing bigger and better idiots. So far, the universe is winning...

Did you also install Starter in your VM image and load up the GSDs for your normal hardware that may not have built in support in V13 upd4? Just trying to help save all your peers grief (and you too!). As you know, StartDrive is a component of V13 but does not fully support S120's and some other more advanced drive technologies (yet). You need starter and perhaps DCC or other add-ins to starter to get your VM image useful. [Note: this is to help others more than you as you know these things]

After a long arduous and life sapping experience, I have managed to install update 4 and all is now working! Almost 4 full days just to get to the position that I can download to a PLC with TIA Portal in a virtual machine. That must be a world record. Good use of time. You are not the only one who has lost days of your time to TIA Portal! I too have had the problem of it being impossible to access the PLCs. Recently resorted to uninstalling v12 and putting on a fresh version of v13. Alas it has not sorted it and no PCs on our site work properly with TIA. Siemens suggest we buy Field PGs but a more cost effective solution is probably to buy a different brand of PLC.
