cannot go online

simisteven Posts: 41 Rating: (0)	I am still really having finger trouble with TIA. As stated previously I managed to successfully migrate and open projects. However even though via online diagnostics, the CPU does get identified, the go online/go offline icons are greyed out and I cannot go online. I have only attempted this with migrated projects. I have not tried with unmigrated projects. To be honest I am not sure of the difference.

Once your project is migrated and hardware configured in TIA Portal, once the project is downloaded to the PLC, you should be able to go online. Until it is downloaded, you may need to submit a Support Requestto find alternatives.

simisteven Posts: 41 Rating: (0)	We have 7 machines with 300 CPUs all running ok and I have S7 ver 5.4 on another laptop which I use to fault find, make mods etc. I purchased ver 11 TIA with the intention of having a 2nd available laptop with a floating license. I was NEVER informed that I was basically spending a lot of money to buy a software that is virtually useless to me unless I can get tuition. I DARE not go online with TIA and download into existing CPUs for fear of corrupting or in someway stopping these machines. So far purchase of TIA has been a frustrating and regrettable experience and I feel seriously let down by Siemens. Local support is just unobtainable and Siemens support in SA appears the same. I am one seriously disgruntled Siemens customer. All the online experts appear to be able to offer high level support to people who are experts and programmers. I am an electrical/mechanical engineer and the only one in our rorganization who has any clue with S7. I need somebody who can dumb down sufficiently to guide me and or get a tutorisl that is simple to follow

I need somebody who can dumb down sufficiently to guide me and or get a tutorisl that is simple to follow What it sounds like you really wanted was a combo license for the portal software which allows you to run legacy S7 (5.x) as well as the newer TIA Portal software. Support Requestis the true expert and can help with all problems, big, small, and in between. We forum users like yourself are typically just end users who participate and exchange information and knowledge to help improve understanding of the hardware and software we either choose to use or are forced to use or are stuck with (depending on your perspective and frustrations at the moment). We do not typically tutor or teach, though at times it may appear we do. There are many manuals written in many languages covering a wide range of topics that describe the hardware and software. The best solution for you would be to submit your Support Requestand get the right license to match your needs. They can also help suggest the right license before you purchase or can find your best regional resource to help - depending on availability (which sounds like is very low). I hope you find these forums helpful. They have certainly helped me understand the hardware and software I am either being forced to use or choosing to use.
