Same problem but with Simatic manager. How to know? 5.5 or 5.6?

I use 5.5, I have acces to the program but no to the hardware configuration. HW is read only because ask me HW update version 5.6. I downloaded theHW updates but I cannot update it. Means the HW configuration was created in 5.6?

 Do you have a screen shot of the message? V5.5 and V5.6 should me compatible.

Yes it is possible that hw was created with a newer version of simatic manager, so that's the reason for your problem. Here you are the trial download for the newer version of Simatic manager step7 v5.6
