Cat 3 with single channel input?

Swright Posts: 26 Rating: (0)	I was reviewing the manual "Automation System S7-300 Fail-Safe Signal Modules". On page 9-5 there is a flow chart for selecting an application that represents the fail safe and redundancy requirements of a new project. I read Application 3 on page 9-9 which is listed as a Category 3 machine safety application, yet it uses a single channel input device. How is this acceptable as Cat 3? Does Cat 3 not require redundant inputs?

Butactually the title of the application could be "up to Cat 3". I mean you could use, this kind of 1oo1 hardware configuration in conjuction withthe Safety Integrated function FB 190 "F_1oo2DI": 1oo2 Evaluation with Discrepancy Analysis So Finally you will have 1oo1 hardware evaluation, but 1oo2 software evaluation that fulfills Cat3 Regards
