Arunraje Posts: 94 Rating: (8)	Dear All, In datasheet of 315-2PN/DP it is given that total no of digital input is 16384 and out of which 1024 are central. what do you mean central Inputs/Outputs? and can this CPU be used to handle 16384 I/O's?

De- central is I/o via profibus or any other bus, not on the same rack. The figure 16.000( and a bit) is the total of central and decentral i/o this CPU can handle. Regards, Marcjan

Hello Arunraje, The most important factor in case of large number of I/O would be execution resources in CPU needed to analyzed data related to that signals and take corrective action.It should be a trade-off between signal numbers and CPU's resources(such as memory and execution load)..In case of analog this would be really critical. Analog channels
Inputs 1024
Outputs 1024
Inputs, of which central 256
Outputs, of which central 256
Hardware configuration
Racks, max. 4
Modules per rack, max. 8
Expansion devices, max. 3

That CPU can handle up to 1024 Digital channel Inputs/ outputs (central).

Central means on the same rack of CPU or expansionrack (by means of IM360, 361 or 365)

Max. is 3 expansion racks + CPU rack, 8 modules per rack.

So, for 32 channel modules,

No. of Channels = 4 racks x 8 modules x 32 channels = 1024 channel.

For Analogs (8-channel modules)

No. of Channels = 4 racks x 8 modules x 8 channels = 256 channel.
