Class2 Master HMI on profibus network

Hi

In our plant, we have a profibus network(line topology) which include three S7 series PLC and one WINCC SCADA PC(Scada PC is also connected to network with profibus protocol using CP card). Customer wants to see some signals on a HMI(KTP series). Also he wants to add this HMI to existing profibus network.

Is it possible to add this HMI as Class2 master on the profibus network?

Of course you can add a seperate HMI as a master Class 2 on a Profibus network, with the numer of nodes you describe it should not affect the transmission speeds at any detectable level.

Which HMI model are you planning to use? If it acts as a Class 2 Profibus master, the communication parameters are setup in the HMI software, as are the tags that will allow exchanges between the CPUs and the HMI screens. If you need help with the configuration and setup of the HMI come back to the forum with more details.

The type of Profibus participation (master, slave, Master Class 2) is determined by the equipment manufacturer, and cannot be selected by the user.

For example, every HMI (and SCADA software) sold by Siemens act as Master Class 2.

I remember working on some projects with Redlion and Maple HMI panels that worked as Profibus slaves.

If you search on the forum for HMI panel gsd files, you might be surprised to find entries that discuss the issues. Note however that the gsd files proposed only link "Direct key" modules or the F-x buttons on key-panels to a Profibus master program, not the HMI tags.
