Client-server ethernet connection

So I have WinCC server and clients connected to it using ethernet connection. So if I use simatic.NET configuration, I need softnet lean license on clients to communicate with server. If I don't use simatic.NET at all, I don't need any softnet license and all working fine. So there comes question: what is the point of using simatic.NET in this situation? Best regards, Darius

Danielle Posts: 1275 Rating: (123)	Hi Darius, First of all: from WinCC v6.0 SP3 on a Simatic Net Lean license is included in your package. That license will allow you to have up to 8 ethernet connections. If you use more than 8 connections or if you don't use the license at all, you're in breach of the license agreement. That means you're using the software illegally. Just like in WinCC the lack of license does not stop your system from working. That's 'cause a customer could hypothetically have it's license corrupted, and you can't stop runtime or communications because of that. But the system works in demo mode. Whenever you start runtime the user will get a warning, and also from time to time during regular operation. That's to make sure you're in an illegal situation, and can be punished by law for that.

The problem was that I was confused. I allways thought that to use ethernet communications I need a license, but in this case if I dont use simatic.NET I don't need to use a license (I have no warning). So the question was natural :) Normally I use simatic.NET and softnet S7 license. Now its all clear to me. Thanks again. Regards, Darius
