I didn't learn with books but for others it might be helpful to know what version of WinCC you want to learn about.

As you are posting your question here I'm guessing WinCC (TIA Portal). But what exactly?

• WinCC Basic/Compfort/Advanced/Professional/all/not sure?  
• V13 SP1 or older?

see Getting Started WinCC V12. There you may not find the project, but documentation (pdf and video) to create it.
