Combining Two Similar WinCC Projects

USAF Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Ineed to merge 2 WinCC projects already running on two separate PCs with connection to 2 different PLCs. Both of these Projects are similar having similar screens, tags etc. In fact these were designed for the same process at 2 different locations.Ineed to combine & control the 2 processes from the same One PC giving control for both processes. Please suggest

Fatso Bronze Member Joined: 9/11/2006 Last visit: 3/17/2022 Posts: 168 Rating: (6)	Hi USAF Which software are you using,do you have PCS7 or Step7?Are you using CFCs for your code?First decide which of the two projects is going to be you only project.Basically what you have to do is to create a connection between Wincc and the PLC form the other project, then copy the pictures to and tags(how you do it depends on which software you are using)to the project you have decided to work with.

Varzu Posts: 17 Rating: (0)	Hi, I had a similar problem couple of years ago. I had to combine two identical WinCC projects into one and run them in one PC. I did the combining the hard way. I changed everything in one project.Picture names, tags etc and also I had to go through all theobjects that had a reference to thechanged names. And after that I was able to copy the pictures and tags etc to the other project. Finally two monitors wereconnected tothe PCso that there was one monitor for each process and the operator knew which process he was controlling. It just would have been much cheeper to buy two PCs, one for each process,instead of doing the combining.

JMJ Posts: 487 Rating: (44)	This is not very easy specially if both PLCs have same Tag names, as WinCC does not allow you two have 2 tags with same name.It is not really mentioned if the project is integrated into Step7 with "configured connection". It may help you a lot if it is a name connection. One thing I suggest it to use WinCC excelconfig tool for all the Tags, Alarms, Taglogging etc. You can create two excel files for each project and thencopy and paste tags, alarmsetc from one projectto the other. WinCC will automaticallypromptandmake a unique tag name etc. Then comes more painful part,you will have to copy all the screen from one project to other and then change the Tags. __________________________ Another thing to consider may be to change the Tag name of both the projects with some Prefix. For example, if you haveMotor_1 as tag to similarmotorin PLC 1 & PLC 2 then you make the tag name to PLC1_Motor_1 and PLC2_Motor_1. Then you can use Tag prefix in graphics without making any Tag name changes in graphics. But scripts, alarms etc should be corrected with correct Tag names.

USAF Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Thanks for all your suggestions Project is developed in WinCC with S7. No PCS7. In fact i was able to export all tags to excel file from both project.there i chabged the tags with some suffixes for one projecct and import it to the 2nd project. copied all .pld's, now all assigment in the combined project is to be done again for the proejct fro which tags are changed. similarly for alarms, archives etc..... I was infact looking for some automated way to do it instead of changing every action manually. is there such a way????
