Coming changes in the badge-system

The badge colors should be more contrast colored concerning the different level of badge. Especially in case of adding a big diamond in Diamond badge - it made the general look of diamond badge ugly and gingerbread. As before it was a simple but with really a beautifully looked.

It is nice to see moderators are caring about the visual appearance of badges and adding new group to motivate more inactive members to participate .I think the contrast of the new Diamond Badge is satisfactory while writing as Expert/ Member , perhaps because it is all empty .

As it has been mentioned by Juergen , I think the new forum has not been really good at Avatars plus more attention on the text editor  . After long time using the new forum , I still have problem typing ,deleting and editing here .

Hello Forum Users,

we decided to create additional badges for users who do not achieve Bronze rank until now. These will be available soon.

Why do we do that?
The existing hurdle to get the Bronze badge could be taken only by a limited number of members. There are many faithful members of the community who have not yet reached that rank. In recognition of their previous activity and to motivate them further, we decided to introduce three new entry-level ranks. These are all located below the previous Bronze Members and therefore correspondingly easier to achieve. The conditions for the previous badges will not be changed.

For the naming we want to include our community. The terms are intended to stand out from the previous "metals" and say something about the activity of the user.

Here are our basis for discussion

• Advanced Member
• Experienced Member

Hallo Ste39,

since his registration this user visit the forum frequently and read a lot of topics, so he deserved one of the new badges. Because this are the users for whom we developed them. It is hard for new users to achieve one of the 'metallic' badges, only 485 reached one of them. But we discussed a similar issue already here: Crazy user's rating ?.

Regarding your idea for the badge requirements:
This are very hard, 650 posts to Bronze is a lot of harder then the previous system. A normal user with this amount of posts is now Silver or Gold Member.
I know it is very easy now to get the first rank, but we choose names that indicates this.

We could imagine a system that indicates the way a user used the forum or special milestones, so that everybody can see in which way he achieved his badge.

for so many years all users get points also for reading posts and I don't know why this bothers you (and some other members) so much. If you are only an extremely active reader, every day in the Forum for 10 years, you will now have probably achieved Bronze/Silver badge. With reading and publishing posts it is much easier to get one of the higher badges. We want to reward members for there loyalty to the Forum and also we want to motivate for a higher commitment.

With the changes in the badges it is normal that the bars in the member badge fills rapidly, but on the other hand it resolves only in the 'Regular Member' rank. Here is a comparison of old system with the new system:

3 Member-bars      'Experienced Member'

So this new badges are only beginner ranks which should lead to the high badges (Bronze+).

Hi.

I agree with Ste39 that the fast paced progress through the lower membership level is ridiculous. Especially when barely contributing to the community. Going through a membership level too quickly does not seem "fair" and might not have the desired effect.

However.. I do understand that the biggest enemy to any Forum / Bulletin Board is when there is no growth in the amount members contributing (especially answering questions).

The new membership levels aims to create a "feeling" of achievement - especially in the beginning. Even if this is "skin deep" that is what social media related systems are built on. The person who feels he/she accomplish something, will be more likely to contribute. Those who contribute more are more likely to get addicted. ..and so becoming a honorary employee of Siemens (wink).

With growth in this Forum, there is less strain on the Siemens Support guys when it comes to newby and application related questions. So Siemens need to look into ways (like this) to boost growth.

The good side for us as regular visitors - we get exposure to a broader horizon of questions and answers. The person who can access these quickly or remember them are better off.

There is much effort to get new members to sign up and get involved. I am saddened however that there does not seem change to offer something for senior members or advanced non frequently asked questions.
