Communicate with a cpu via ethernet..

I want to communitace with a cpu via ethernet but i do not know what hardware i need to buy, I got a CP343-1 Lean, but as far as I know I can't use it to communicate with the cpu (look at I/O and make small changes). What do I need to make this possible? The cpu's I got is various versions of S7-300. // Johan

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hi one2three, I can say that you can use the CP 343-1 Lean for PG Functions. The CP itself is not capable of doing active S7-Connections but it can be Server for S7-Connections, including PG Functions. I hope this could help a bit. Best regards J_Bell

Late Platinum Expert Joined: 1/7/2006 Last visit: 12/23/2024 Posts: 2705 Rating: (320)	Dear Johan, If you want to communicate between all S7-300 with S7-functions then you need a CP343-1EX21. That CP may be Server and/or Client, the 300-CPU is always a Server(exception are the CPU 318 and the CPU 319, that can be both). If you have to build up new installations then you may use the CPU's with a internal Ethernet port. Those can be also Server and/or Client.

No it's not a new configuration, it's an old system that I want to manage from my office instead of sitting next to the cpu with my field pg. I got the cp343-1 lean up and running and I can ping it via cmd line, and I can get online in the manager only if I got the CP marked in my configuration three, but as soon as I try to get into the cpu blocks I get disconnected. So what I understand from you answer is that it's not possible to do that with a CP343-1 Lean? The CP343-1 Lean can just send info do dedicated I/O's right? I've attached a file to show how I want the configuration to work. Please let me know what I need instead of the CP343-1 Lean that I got in my picture. Calm_down Posts: 324 Rating: (30)	Dear Johan, I am sorry, but it is true. It is not possible to communicate with the S7 Protocol actively from the CP 343-1 Lean. But if you want to program with STEP 7 from a PC/PG this will work... I am 100% sure! The question is what do you do to do so? If you can ping the PLC CP from your PC it should not be a big thing to program. The only thing is that you should be connected over a Switch of a Hub to the PLC. If you are connected over a Router I would wonder if you allowed the Port 102 to be forwarded. If this is not the case you have this problem. [:)] Stay calm. [;)]

There might be a problem if you don't load Netpro in all CPU's, then the routing is not working. You have to download from Netpro all systems. Another thing might be that your CPUs/CPs are not up-to-date, I have had that once, updating is also no problem, only when it are very old CPUs then it might be a problem. Please search on internet on your CPU/CP and check if they are up-to-date!!

I don't know if my hw is up to date, but as far as I know it's not that old. CPU313C (313-5BE00-0AB0) and CP343-1 Lean (343-1CX10-0XE0) Do I have to add my pg in netpro too?
