Communicate with Altivar drive on the Ethernet TCP/IP

MOJY Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Hi all We are working on a automation project that must make the Altivar drives communication ( Signal Controling and monitoring ) with the Siemens S-300 PLC on the Ethernet TCP/IP communication protocol. Our drives are from the Altivar 61 & 71 model. we find that must using the " VW3A3316 EtherNet/IP Card " on this models. Can anyone give me a document that describe how we can read the Altivar drive parameters on the ethernet protocol on the Siemens S-300 PLC ? Thank you so much . G00DLUCK

EtherNet/IP is an application layer protocol (running on topof TCP/IP)treating devices on the network as a series of objects. And is not directly supported by S7-300 PLCs S7-300 PLCs have a Profinet IO interface.

dchartier Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 3/22/2025 Posts: 12344 Rating: (2707)	Hello Mojy; To complete Umencho's remarks, the Altivar drives support a wide variety of communication protocols, some of which are easy to use for data exchanges with a S7 PLC. Ethernet/IP is not one of these (it is native to Controllogix PLCs from Rockwell). One example of compatible protocolsis Profibus-DP: ATV61/71 Profibus DP manual - VW3A3307 Profibus-DP is of course native to Siemens PLCs and available on most S7 CPUs (either through an integrated port on the CPU or through a CP card). If you go this route you would find this connection simple and direct. You could also look into Modbus TCP, native to Schneider PLCs and supported on S7 CPUs with an integratedProfinet port or with a CP x43-1 on the rack: ATV61/71 Modbus TCP/IP manual - Daisy Chain Ethernet card - VW3A3310D S7 OpenModbus/TCP - IT4Industry - Siemens Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier

The altivar drives has a native Modbus TCP RJ45 port, our controller is Siemens S-300 that adding a Ethernet module on it, it's part number is 6GK7343-1EX30-0XE0. Can we connect the altivar drives by it's Modbus TCP port to our Ethernet hub and calling it's parameters ( Modbus TCP ) on the Step 7 ? Or we must using an especial gateway to makes possible to integrate Modbus-TCP devices into the PLC that has Profinet module ? Thanks

You will find demo drivers and documentation for both a CP 343-1 or 443-1 Ethernet processor and CPUs with integrated Profinet ports. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier

The native altivar communication is two RJ45 Modbus TCP, i think we can communicate with it.
