Communicating with other brands of PLCs

Joji00 Posts: 15 Rating: (0)	Well hello guys !! I need to communicate with and Allen Bradley PLC which are on the same Profibus Network. I want to transfer the data in a DB to the AB PLC and I dont have the slight idea how to go about it. Any refrences about it are highly appreciated. Thanks and Regards, Joji

dchartier Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 1/25/2025 Posts: 12330 Rating: (2702)	Jello Joji00; The esaiest way to setup an AB PLC to a S7 PLC over Profibus-DP is to use a Master-slave connection. First determine which one is to be master. It does not matter which, but choose one. Say the S7 is master, then insert the Prosoft or SST (depending on the maker of the Profibus scanner for your AB) gsd file in the HWConfig editor (Tools --> Insert gsd file); insert the AB PLC on the Profibus line of the CPU with the Profibus address you need, and select the modules for input/output you need; note theat In and Out is determined from the master's point of view, if you want to write to the slave then use Out bytes/words. The In and Outa addresses given to you by HWConfig will refer to I and Q addresses; you will need to copy the values you have in your DB to those addresses in your program to the Q addresses in order to write them over Profibus to the slave. In the AB slave, give the same Profibus address to the Profibus scanner card that you have selected in the master, create the same i/O modules,bu reversed (whatever was Out from the master must be In to the slave), and use the AB program given by Prosoft or SSTto read the data that comes in at those addresses from the master. You should be able to adapt the situation to yourselected hardware. This should be even more detailed than my previous reply, but also easier to follow. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier
