Communication between CPU-317 2PN/ DP & CPU-417 3PN/DP via TCP/IP

samibh Posts: 9 Rating: (0)	Hi, I am working on Simatic S7. I want to communicate between CPU 317- 2PN/DP & CPU 417-3PN DP. My program is in CPU-417 3PN/DP and also having my seperate SCADA. I want to take some digital signals from CPU 317-2PN/DP to show onmy SCDA. Also send one/two commands from CPU 417 to CPU-317. I want to do this communication via Ethernet using IP adress and on SCADA tags are under TCP/IP. How to witre logic/ which commands should be useful? How to start for this? Please help me in this case.

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, actually on Ethernet you have two ways to get this to work: 1. you use S7-Communication. Here you may use PLC to PLC Communication over both sided configured Connections. You either may transfer large blocks of data between the PLC’s or you simply access the remote PLC to read or write some bytes somewhere in the system. The SCADA systems used publicly often support S7-Communication to access the S7. S7-Communication also works on TCP/IP basis. 2. you use TCP/IP or UDP/IP. Here you need to configure Connections, to do so you need this tool on your PC: Generating the Connection Data for the open TCP/IP Communication using the Open Communication Wizard A sample on how to program the system with a interconnection of PLC’s or to connect a PC to your configuration you may check this FAQ: How do you program the communication blocks FB63 "TSEND", FB64 "TRCV", FB65 "TCON" and FB66 "TDISCON" in order to use the TCP protocol for data exchange via the integrated Industrial Ethernet interface of an S7-300 or S7-400 CPU? The SCADA would need to send or receive Data from the PLC and it has to know what they mean. You will have to care on the information what you want to tell to the SCADA System and what data is part of the transmission done right now. So there is a lot to do for you I think. If you want you may also mix both ways of communication. I would keep at least the S7-Communication for the SCADA System. Best regards J_Bell

Is this hardware sufficcient for communication between both PLCs via Ethernet(TCP/IP) using PN Port ? Or any CP card/ any other hardware is required? I have show signals from 317 2PN DPon my SCADA of 417-3PN/DP. Can I use BSEND/BRECEIVE command for communication? What is the difference between BSEND & TSEND? J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear Samibh, if I see your S7-400 it seems to be a bit packed but I guess it should work even with all this PROFIBUS DP stuff around. The OS systems used should already use S7-Communication, at least I think so. The difference between BSEND and TSEND is simple to describe. The BSEND / BRECV functions are dedicated to the S7-Communication (S7-Protocol). You can not use it in any other way than that. With BSEND / BRECV you may transfer up to 64 kBytes of data with one task. You do not care about Connection handling or establishment, this is all taken care of by the PLC itself. The TSEND is part of the Open Communication interface of the S7. Together with TCONN, TRECV, TDISCON... it is being used for TCP/IP Connections, ISO on TCP Connections or UDP Connections on the PN Interface of your PLC CPU. The main issue on this Open Communication is that everything you want has to be done by you in your Program. So you have to configure the connection, maybe with the Open Communication Wizard, you have to establish the connection, send / receive over it and close the connection again. Seen form the performance point of view ISO on TCP or TCP is faster than S7-Communication, but S7-Communication is much easier to handle. So it is up to you to decide what you want to use. samibh Posts: 9 Rating: (0)	Dear J_Bell, I am studying one more block, which is SFC X_GET to get(read) the data from other PLC. and also X_PUT to write/send data to other PLC. I think in this case, making of S7 Connection is not required, Is it so? Can I use these blocks for communication over Ethernet? How much data in bytes I can handle with these blocks? Regards, Samibh

samibh Posts: 9 Rating: (0)	In above link it is mentioned that, we can use these X PUT and X GET block when other PLC is connected via PROFIBUS or MPI. Here in my case Other PLC is connected through Ethernet Via TCP/IP protocol (using IP address because PN port are present on both PLCs and No CP card.) So for this can I use X_GET and X_PUT blocks? Or I have to use T SEND and T RCV? Which will be simple one? I am doing this first time, so I need simple solution so that I can do it very well and which I can adapt easily. Regards, Samibh.

samibh Posts: 9 Rating: (0)	There are two PLCs, one is dedicated for Grain Milling program and other is for Distillery. Communication on TCP/IP should take palce between these two sections. So in this case, is it necessary to use TCON & TDISCON blocks? or only TSEND & TRECV are sufficient for communication. Also should any block add/require in NETPRO for this communication?
