COMMUNICATION BETWEEN IM308C AND CP342-5

PHILCAT Advanced Member Joined: 11/25/2005 Last visit: 12/11/2024 Posts: 21 Rating: (0)	Hello, I try to make a Profibus connection between a IM308C as master, hosted on a 840C CNC , and a CP342-5 , with S7 CPU317-2DP PLC. I use Com Profibus V5.1 and S7 V5.4. I have started my project from the example given under ID 6711776 and have adapted the hardware configuration. The problems I have are the followings: 1) ON IM308C, theled RN is on and the led's BF is blinking every 2s a little. 2) ON CP342-5,theled RUN is ON and theled BUSFis on. The cable is OK and and can see both stationsfrom Com Profibus and from S7. While making a general diagnose from Com Profibus,the master is seen as RN and the Slave is seen as OK. While making a search of the available station from S7, I see both adress from Master and slave (slave is declared waiting). While making diagnosis with NCM , for the slave , I have the three following messages appearing all the time: 1) Slave ready for transfer 2) Slave transfers data's 3) Slave has stopped the transfer of data's Regarding additionnal informations on the 3rd message, it could be -Time out on slave -The master releases the slave DP -wrong Profibus telegramm -Changes in configuration of Slave DP Regarding Diag, nothing indicates that there are errors on the network. The configuration of the slave is not changed too. Could someone give me some ideas to find what happens. I join some copy of diagnosis screen taken with S7 and Com Profibus(sorry they are in french - but I thinck what they indicates is clear). Regards PHILCAT Attachment Status.zip (204 Downloads)

You seemed to have all your "homework", so I'm not too sure what to suggest to test other than what islisted in thecorresponding FAQ's and examples that you already have. Ideally you connect a Profibusanalyser (e.g. Profitrace)to your bus to find out what is really happening every 2 seconds orso. Having said that, it wouldn't hurt topost your COM Profibus configuration and Step7 project here so it can be examined. Cheers Fritz

Bhaskaran Posts: 107 Rating: (13)	Hi ! Are you sure that you selected cp 342-5 operating mode as Slave. Which address are you trying to read and write. it may be possible that your DB's are too small. Make your DB length say 200 bytes In function DP SEND make SEND parameter as P#DB253.DBX0.0 BYTE 200 In function DP RECV make RECV parameter as P#DB254.DBX0.0 BYTE 200 If you want to read IB 60 then you will see the value at DB254.DBB60 If you want to write QB 60 then you have to write the value at DB253.DBB60 Hope the above helps.

In fact , it depends on the hardware configuration on the S7 side. in the operating mode selection of CP342-5, if DP slave mode is selected, the point "programming,status/modify and other PG functions and unconfigured communication possible" should be deselected inthis case. Errors have dissapeared and Bus is OK. Regarding the exchange of data's, I have tryed with adress 0 from the IM308C side and uses 2 bytes for transfert and that works.I shall now try with an adress greater than 0 and adapts my programm following the remarks of Bhaskaran. J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear Philcat, I wonder... did the network configuration of your IM 308 C also contain the second active node on the bus? The issue is, if the CP 342-5 receives this check box the CP is becoming an active node on the Bus and so receives the Token too. If your System is not taking care of this it might be that the CP drops out of the ring and the communication may get interfered... so, this might be a point to look out for. Best regards J_Bell

PHILCAT Advanced Member Joined: 11/25/2005 Last visit: 12/11/2024 Posts: 21 Rating: (0)	Hello All, My connection functions correctly now and I can exchange 16 words of data's on both directions between 840C and S7 317-2DP via CP342-5. On the side of 840C, with COM Profibus, While entering the code for I/O on CP342-5, I have selected Identification format NORMAL 16 ouputs (word formatswithout coherence) and 16 inputs (same time). 16AA P224 16AE P224 On S7 side, In the hardware configuration, I have just declared the CP342-5 as slave in the properties on the module. Nothing else in necessary for the configuration. Regarding the part programms, the parameters for FC SEND AND RECEIVEconcerning the SEND and RECV DATA's must match exactly the length of what has been declared in Com Profibus. For example, here I have declared P#DB100.DBX0.0 BYTE 32 for SEND parameters and P#DB100.DBX32.0 BYTE 32 for RECEIVE parameters. Those parameters are in this case independant of the adress declared in COM Profibus. On 840C side , I use PW to read inputs or write outputs.On S7 side, I read data's in DB100 DBB0 to DBB31 and write data's in DB100 DBB32 to DBB61.
