communication between S5 as master and S7 as slave via profibus

Marcopolo Posts: 20 Rating: (0)	Dear members I have a 135u as master ( IM308) in the profibus network and I wanna connect it to read/write S7 314-2DP , I have read some tips and thread but I can't find some example program,I need a sample to transfer a DW from S7 and read with S5 and transfer DW from S5 and read with S7, thanks alot

dchartier Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 3/14/2025 Posts: 12344 Rating: (2707)	Hello marcopolo; In the following link you will find a sample applicaytion to use a IM 308C as a DP-,master station(note the model of the IM card, this will not work with a IM 308B for example) with a CP 315-2DP slave. How do you operate an S7-300/400 as a DP slave on the PROFIBUS DP when the DP master is an S5 (with IM 308-C)? You will alsoneed the gsd file for the CPU 314-2DP that you plan to use in your application. You will find it here: PROFIBUS GSD files : SIMATIC Using the 2 links, you should be able tomodify the original programs and implement you own project. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, I am sorry but I fear there is some misunderstanding. DP does not transfer DB’s form A to B it only processes I/O data. You may certainly put some DB information into the I/O data but you will have to know what to do within your PLC as you receive the data... so it something you have to manage in your program. But thisshould not be any problemas you may read or write also at yourinputs or outputs. Best regards J_Bell

Marcopolo Posts: 20 Rating: (0)	Thanks for reply dears; I must say that I'm working on a new project at my work that I haven't any experiences before;connecting S5 network with 9 nodes in profibus (L2)to a new device that it is control by 314-2DP cpu,I want to transfer some DW and BITs from S7 to S5 station in order to monitoring on the H1 network that is connected to S5 with cp1430 TF.Also I must put on S7 some commands through HMI.(DW and BITs) I have learned from forums S5 and S7 HW config for such data transfering. In our plant we have many s5 plcs that they have data transfering between each other( via profibus DP in shared DBs) Now I have configured my network with COM Profibus and added S7 plc as a slave one beside other slave node where the master is IM 308,and in the S7 I have defined it to work as slave. In the CP 1430 TF I have also written 2 jobs,send and recieve (send/recieve all exist).In S5 program I have written also needed programs. My problem is to continue ( if it is possible ! ) writting neccesary S7 program to send and recieve incoming data from HMI. best regards and thanks for your attention

fritz Diamond Expert Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 3/14/2025 Posts: 3042 Rating: (1061)	Hello Marcopolo I understand that you have a bunch of S5's, a Ethernet H1 network between (some of?) them,a Profibus L2 network between (some of?) them (FDL commsor Profibus DP?), one or moreHMI's (connected to what Network1?) and are about to add a Profibus DP Network via an IM308C to one of the S5's. My understanding may be totally wrong though, but either way,I must admit that I don't quite understand what you actuallywant to (or need to) do/achieve. Could you perhaps make a sketch or two and upload the here which show: 1.) The existing Network(s) 2.) The planned new additional Network. 3.) What comms need to go from where to where. The more detail you can give us (e.g type of comms cards), the better and I hope this helps

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear Marcopolo, I am really sorry for my late reply, but I saw your thread is still open and I think the answers you are looking for are not as hard as they seem. Well, you mentioned that you have some S5 Systems with CP 1430TF at Ethernet and IM 308 C on PROFIBUS DP. Well, your guess was right, you may add the S7 as DP Slave also to the IM 308 without any problem. I hope you already downloaded the required GSD files form the Internet already. Well if you have done this you may configure the S7 just like I/O. The S7 needs to be configured alike the configuration you did with the S5. The I/O Data you configure in the S7 are somewhere within the I/O area provided by the S7, so you are free to choose. The data there may be stored and loaded by Transfer and Load processes within your Program. I hope this answers your questions. Best regards J_Bell
