RAJKIRAN Silver Member Joined: 8/18/2009 Last visit: 3/8/2025 Posts: 554 Rating: (33)	Dear Expert, In my Project there is communication with Profibus devices(DP)(Qnty -4) so I have taken Y-link (6ES7 197 1LA040XA0) but it is costly & used for besically in redundant system. In my Project there is no any redundancy. so please suggest me alternate less costly module.

I do not know if you have already described it in another post, in that case please refer to it or continue the same thread. But as it is I have absolutely no idea what you are trying to do. A Y-Link is only used to connect a redundant pair of DP-masters (on a S7-400H system) to a single-interface DP-slave network. it is useless in any other case. And expensive, as you state, if you work without redundant masters. Are you using a PLC in your project? Most S7-300/400 PLCs have an integrated PD port on the CPU, they have a designation S7-xxx-2DP or -2PN/DP. If your CPU does not have an integrated DP port or if it is already in use you can add a CP-342-5 or a CP 443-5 EXT to connect a Profibus network to that CPU. S7-200 PLCs can only have a DP-slave communication module; S7-1200 CPUs can add either a slave or a master on^Profibus-DP depending on the selected comm module. Are you planning to have a PC be the Profibus-DP master? Then there are quite a few PCI cards (from Siemens and other manufacturers) that can be used as a Profibus-DP interface; you will have to purchase some software to control them and set them up. So what are you trying to do exactly? A complete description of your project, with some indicastion of the selected hardware, will sal;low us to understand better. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier

dchartier Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 3/14/2025 Posts: 12344 Rating: (2707)	Hello rajkiran; Profibus-DP allows daisy-chained connection of u^p to 125 nodes on a network, so yes, you can easily extend the Profibus cable from one ET 200M (IM 153-2 imnterface module) to any other Profibus-DP slave (another IM 153-2, a Profibus-enabled drive, a Profibus encoder, a Profibus regulator...). Profibus connector have 2 entries for the Profibus cable, one entering the node, one exiting to the next node, so daisy-chaining is easy to implement. Actually the terminating resistance on the Profibus connector blocks transmission between the entering cable and the exiting calbe, thus isolating the node and cutting transmissions at that point. The main points are: maintaining the Profibus parameters of the bus (max. number of nodes per segment [32], max. busspeed per segment, use of repeaters to extend number of nodes and bus speed) and configuring all nodes to the master, in the Profibus configuration software.
